Possibly although it depends on what channels you were watching. It's been reported that DirecTV looks slighty better than Dish on some channels.

They may compress some channels different that others. For example, The Weather Channel may look better on Direct than Dish but TBS may look better on Dish than Direct (just an example, may not be true).

It may also have something to do with the tv and the size of it.
