I know people not living in the New York market are tired of hearing about this subject matter. Us New Yorkers already have YES and SNY in HD but we are a greedy lot and want our MSG in HD. I noticed on the advertisement banner on the Directv website that it was part of the new HD. Not here yet as has been discussed numerous times, I know all that.

Today I received in the mail a nice glossy package from Direct TV with a nice cut out for the listings of all the new HD channels that are NOW here. On it had the above mentioned MSG and FSN NY. I could not resist so I called Directv customer service. I know those people are hard working folks like us so I was real nice but dam, the guy knew nothing. Very frustrating getting info from them. I thanked him and said goodby still not getting a real answer. He told me the Knicks would be in HD but the Rangers would not be. Huh? And when is any of this going to happen. And if it doesn't happen then Directv, who I really do like,is false advertising.

Yep.. this has been an issue for a while.. many of us are pulling out our hair over the lies and misinformation D* has been providing to us, their customers. See the link above to the thread I started about D* repeatedly telling me that MSG HD and FSN NY HD are indeed live on D*. The D* CSRs and managers at their call centers have no clue what they are talking about.. read my postings in the thread and enjoy.

yeah whats the deal.
I got that new flashy mail ad from DirecTV about the new HD channels and change of packages starting in december. Then I saw on the list MSGHD.
Saw Rangers were playing and put the channel only to be dissapointed that it was not HD.

Seems like a contractual issue is still being worked on b/w D* and CV/MSG. Keep calling or emailing D* to continue to press them on the fact that we want MSG HD/FSN NY HD. I think they still need some encouragement...

The only thing that will move the Dolans is a whole lot of money

I wonder how much less or more TV advertising $$$ they can gain by allowing other services to provide MSG HD and FSN NY HD compared to with-holding it. I hear the TV ad revenue of the Devils this year is way down. I wonder if its the same for the Rangers and Islanders, too.

Obviously, the second they allow D* to carry these two channels, we will all hear a giant sucking sound in NY of people canceling CV cable and calling D*. I'd like to be a fly on the wall during these contract talks.

Thats the vibe I'm getting. If that is the case then it's just plain nuts for D* to be touting something they don't have to sell.

I doubt that very much. I takes a lot for someone to switch providers. I'm sure some will leave CV for D* but just on this issue? I don't see it. In fact the point being raised about additional advertising revenue is a good one. I bet it would more then offset the few subscribers they would lose to D*.
