Both are over priced, do you need UHF, VHF or both?

I plan to order either Dish Network or Direct TV in the next day or so. They don't carry the local college station WTLU - Lynchburg, VA. 25kw. So I need a [nice looking - wife doesn't want a basket type antenna] to pick up this station.
Any suggestions vs. Dish network vs. Direct TV will be appreciated.

I have E* with the VIP-622 HD DVR. I'v been a E* sub for over 10yrs. Overall I'm happy with them. Although some of their court battles over the years have tried my patients. About the outdoor antenna, How far are you from the transmitters? Are there any obstructions? Keep in mind when it comes to outdoor antennas bigger and higher are better. If you are close enough the square shooter might work. I have not tried any of those types of antennas. I use the CM4228 UHF Bowtie with a Winegard HDP269 amp and a rotor. This works very well in pulling in stations 50mi. away but I'm sure your wife would disapprove of this setup as it is pretty ugly. All my live-in girlfriend cares about is that she can watch her CSI, NCIS etc. She don't care what the antenna looks like. You might want to check over at avsforum.com there are many people over there that are very smart when it comes to off air topics. Good luck!

You can spend a lot of $ on a good looking ant. that does not work and a lot less on one that works

I'm 7-10 miles from the tower.

I agree, you can spend a lot of $ for looks that don't work. Might have to compromise.

I have the SS-2000...been great for me. I live about 30 mi from the towers. I'd think you could get a really cheap-o radio shack antenna for as close as you are. In fact, you might be able to get em on a tv-top antenna.
