View Full Version : Problems with 110 Transponders

Please note that I wasn't able to check prior to getting in to work this morning, so bear with me....
Last night, after midnight PT, I tried looking ahead in the program guide. Affter about 44 hours, my 501 needed to load up current guide data.... HUH?
So, I checked around the transponders. The 9 day guide is on 110T29, which is getting no signal. Other affected channels include Vision TV and Dish Home. Also, transponder 13 was getting no signal, and that's a CONUS slot. The Travel Channel then went to transponder 6.
I'll have to check again when I get home and on my 501s, but it sounds like my Dish needs to be repeaked. Lord knows when I'll be home for them to do that this week.

On the edge of the footprint of E*V where I am located transponder 13 (for some reason tranponder 13 appears to still be on E*V) and transponder 29 are the weakest signals and rarely lock satisfactorily. Consequently I never get the guide information.
If those transponders are weak with me they are more than likely weaker than the other transponders everywhere else so, if your dish is a little off it could easily account for your lack of signal.

I am not receiving any signal from a good number of the transponders at 110, especially ones above 21.
A call to Dish confirmed that this is a nationwide problem and they are working to resolve the issues.
In the meantime, just don't plan on watching a good number of channels from the AT150 package or PPV.

Thanks for the info.
Seeing the same problem in Nazareth, PA.

I've been having problems with transponders 13 and 29. Transponder 29 carries the nine-day program guide and the Dish Home, so my 501 currently has "no info" on ALL of the channels.
Should have checked the boards before almost being driven crazy trying to solve what I thought was a problem in my system... Thanks for the info!
I'm in the Dallas area and I'm having problems with transponders 13, 23, 25, 26 and 31 (and maybe more) on the 110 satellite today too. They worked last night and I get good signal strengths on many other 110 transponders.
Must be a DISH problem.

I happened to shutdown last night on a channel on 110 and when I flipped it on this morning got the Receiver has lost satellite message. I channeled up and found that other channels seemed to come in. SO I went to the setup menu and checked the aiming and sat 110 shows Tran 22-31 are dead. Also transponder 13. I wonder if Dish is playing chess with the programming again and moving stuff around. As someone said earlier, I should've come here first before I spent that much time tracking things down. Thanks for keeping on top of it folks. you do a great job.

I've been have some problems with reception for the past 2 weeks. Ever since Christmas I got nothing on either receiver. The guy came out to replace the SW64 with a twin and 2 SW21's. Everything stated to work again except for some channels on 110. The guy called up the special installer number and the lady he talked to confirmed problems on transponders 3, 13, 23-29 at the 110 location. She said it's a problem with the uplink not the bird itself. They have no idea when the channels will be back.
Transponders 13, 22 thru 31 = Echostar 5
The other transponders are Echostar 8 (From lyngsat)
Appears Echostar 5 is out.

I mergered both threads on this topic
E*8 transp 3 and 13 were on when the satellite was first launched. Why won't they turn those transponders back on to help solve this is anyone's guess.
Also many of the other Conus transponders on E*8 have 2 or 3 channels on them. They could move channels currently on E*5 transponders to E*8 and provide trouble free service even with the E*5 apparent failure, specially if this problem has been ongoing since Christmas.

FYI- In Hawaii, although there was trouble this morning(A-OK last night), all the AT-150 channels seem to be back up. Currently(9:25am HST/2:25pm EST?), 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 are out on 110, but I seem to recall this is the normal situation here.

2-10 evens on 110 are on the spot beam.
Yep, it looks like all the channels are back up :)

I just did a signal check on my reciever, getting over 110 on all the E8 beams, 13 & 21+ on E5 come in around 100 (lowest one was 95 on T29). So, it appears they have it back up to normal power now. They still do not seem to have E5 doing double power yet.

Fine here as well. Will more locals go up when E5 goes double power mode? When is this supposed to happen?

I noticed it as well. What I noticed I lose some of my Center Ice and NBA League Pass channels, although I've been going to my "point dish" screen and I recheck the Dish 500 and when I come back to the guide the channels are there.
I seem to have lost Program guide data Wed 1/1 around 9pm PST, TR 13 and 29 both around 70. Anyone else still having problems with this?

I am seeing transponder 3 at low level, is it on E*V or E*VIII? Am also seeing transponder 13 at low level plus 22 upwards all of which I believe are on E*V.
I am on the edge of the footprint but am getting pretty reasonable signals from E*VIII. I am wondering if the fact that I use a 1.8 meter dish with narrow beamwidth might mean I need to peak the dish for E*V rather than the way I have done it which was for E*VIII as I am not sure if the two satellites are far enough apart for them not to be illuminated equally with the narrow beamwidth dish.
Anyone have any information about this?
Johnsmith, yes, transp.3, 13 and 22-31 are on EV. And yes, you should use any of this transponders to peak your antenna.
I live in New York City and have been losing signal for the last week. It seems to happen around 11 o'clock every night, but doesn't effect my locals. Now they weather hasn't been great, but every night seems a bit extreme. Any advice?
apl,
Check you signal strength at different times of the day. You should always have at least 70 but hopefully more. If your signal is too weak you should re-aim your dish. Also, it may be that there is some moisture in your cable connections. Check for that too. The truth is that you give little information so I am guessing. :)
For the second time now (since the transponder issue on 110)I've come home from work and flipped on the TV (had a picture come up) and hit the guide only to have the screen go black and get the "downloading program information" screen on my 508.
One time I let it sit for 30 minutes and finally decided to reboot the 508, go to the setup screens and force a reload which seemed to work. Last night I just let it sit and in about 10-15 minutes it downloaded the new guide and everything was fine. Any ideas why this might be happening?
I've checked my signal strengths and everything seems ok. At least from what I can tell. This leads me to a second question. What should I be expecting to see? If I click on the DISH 500 option I get both sat's displaying on the screen at the same time which is nice. In this mode what should I be hoping to see on a clear day/night? I have no obsticles in the way, only open field.
If I go to each transponder on each satellite I'm not seeing anything close to what Steve is seeing. More like what Z'Loth reported. This hasn't changed since my dish was installed this past summer. I've never seen #'s like what Steve posted. I watched the installer point the dish with meter and he definately had it peaked. Initially he couldn't get a decent signal at all but eventually it just started getting signal. He made some comment about it being his meter. I'm wondering if I have a problem with by Quad LNB?

Hi Jeff, It does sound a little weird whats happening, but nothing to worry about. If your transponder strengths are like Zloths's then they are fine. :) This has only happened a couple times since this summer?
