added through the 15th, someone told me they got a discount if they agreed to add it for another 3 months free or something like that, not sure if that's true but I called and CSR told me no such thing and that I could not even add it until it was turned off on the 15th, huh??? That makes no sense. Is this true about a discount or about not being able to add it until the 15th? FWIW, I have been a customer for over a decade and get just about everything.

They are not setting up the HD Xtra package probably before early December. It is free for everybody until then, I suspect they will set up an online mechanism to add it without calling.

I got the letter and called them about it. I than said that I want to drop my tivo unit to make up for the price ( this was not complaining, I just stated it matter of factly because I can't take the increase right now and this was the best option.) at that point he said if I keep it on I will get 6 months of credits for the HD extra that start in Dec so I won't have the charge untill the july bill. I said ok, now in july I will have to again weight in all my options and make a decision again, but it gives me more of a chance on what to decide. I only have to have the pack right now for enterprise on HDNet. by than maybe Sci fi will show it in HD or maybe it will be cancelled all together. anyway, theres what happened to me.

You can already add HD Extra through Directv's website (Change programming)

I'm not seeing it available to me from their website. I get the following from the plan comparison screen.

Nevermind, I found it here, but I still don't see how I add this to my existing package.

I just clicked on where it said HD Extra Pack. But I couldn't see your screen display well enough to see where you were on the site. But it can indeed be added on now, you just aren't billed until Dec.

When you go to change programming you will see a Recommended package. scrool down the page and as you get closer to the bottom it will show you what is on your packages currently. At the bottom of this page click "I will choose my own programming."

This will get you to a Change Programming screens with selections along the top of Base Packages, Premium Channels, Sports Subscriptions, International, Services, and Change Summary.

Select Services and you will see a selection for HD Extra Pack along with DirecTV Protection, Games lounge.......

hope this helps.

I added it yesterday on the website. It says 3 months free and then $4.99.

Am I missing something here or has Directv hit us with another upcharge. My mailing indicates that HDNet, HDNet Movies, MGM HD. MHD, Smithsonian HD and Universal HD will now be part of this new HD Extra Pack for an additional $4.99 per month. Three of these channels I had been receiving as part of the $9.99 HD pack.

Yes they will be adding a new HD package and I believe it will start Dec. 15th.

Any channel that does not have a SD version will be a part of that package.

That's not the part that concerns me. That is just a trade of one pack for another. Stays at $9.99 (although I have to admit that charging for HD as a whole bothers me). It's the new charge for channels that had always been covered. DirecTV had repeatedly indicated that there would be no price increases. This seems to be an end around.

Just stick around, the Games have only just begun on the HD packages..And do you really believe the 9.99 Access fee(Thats what it called now) will stay there for long..Don't hold your breath, as soon as the New Bird goes live we will see another price increase within a couple of months if not sooner...

Nice. They did promise no price increases ... didn't they?

Haven't you heard ...Its not a price increase, as stated by the new DirectTV president..... New speak I guess....After all they gave us :eek2: (Notice how a promise made long ago to get us as customers has now become a gift..)over 70 New HD channels with most showing true HD less than 10% of the time, then took away those that were 100% HD...and now want to charged extra....Brite side is whenever the so called HD channels really broadcast full time, the new Fee will be mute since Hd will then be the norm and direct will have no choice but to drop the fee's in order to compete, provided of course we get some competition going.....
