Hi. Since I got this last Feb the software has been updated several times and new options appear on the menus. The last update was this week. Is there anywhere I can go to find out how to use the new options since the original manual is worthless? How is one suppose to know when something new comes along? If it wasn't for all the TV adds how would someone know about the new HD channels unless they look at this news group. I suspect only a fraction of users look at this news group.:(

Given the fact that on the HR20/21 systems... if you key in the same channel number, you access the HD version of the channel (for the most part).
And the TV ads
And the Blimp during the WS
And the kiosks at Home Depot, Best Buy, and even some grocery stores
The newspaper ads in the WSJ and USA-Today
Articles in a bunch of other publications
I don't think it is going to be "that" big of an unknown... especially amongst existing HR20/21 users....
As to an updated manual... I'll leave that to the other posters here...

Up here in Nevada County, Ca, we're a bit isolated, no home depot, Best buy, etc. It takes an hour to drive to "the big city" [or Wally World as it's known up here].
This may sound un-American I know, but some of us didn't see the blimp [or the WS].

Visit DBSTalk.com. Tell your friends. If you Google "directv hd dvr help" you will find us about 4 or 5 lines down, below the "official" forums which sometimes send people here as well.

Geez where do you shop? Sounds like you live in the Country. I bet it's quiet out there.

Well other then the TV ads (which most of you skip).
Short of a personal phone call.... or a MASS mailing (which is probably be worked on anyway).... how else should they get the word out?
You think maybe D* has a database that contains our names, addresses, system setup?
You think maybe they could query that for H/R/20/21 users?
You think they could send a postcard with details on the new channels?
Nope, I guess not.
Earl beats me to the punch line again!
I need to learn to type faster ;)

It's the price we pay to live here.
The net, UPS & FedEx is one way we "get by".
D* could send us a showcase that we can ignore.

How about a quick reference/latest updates document in the Customer Service section on D*'s website?
:)
I got something in the mail about all the new HD channels. They also left a message on my answering machine to remind me to hook up the thingys (I forgot what they are called) because I would need them for HD channels.

It is wonderful! Closest big box store is about 50 miles away and the one and only stop light in Nevada City works well! Coyotes make noise at night and one of my dogs treed a bear the other day.
Thank God for DTV! Without it we would have NO TV.

Include the news in the monthly bills.
Include the news in the monthly bills.
I don't get a monthly bill. Only an e-mail telling me how much I owe and when its due, and a link to view my bill.

There is a mass mailing going out about the new HD channels with a channel lineup. It also talks about the HD Extra package. I got it about a week ago.

Me too. A very nice color brochure went to at least Florida and Illinois...

I guess I should have waited a few more hours to post -- because in the mailbox today was a nice color brochure from D* listing all the new and soon to be here, HD channels.

I got a giant purdy color fold-out post card with news of all the new HD channels.
Didn't everyone?

I got it. It's not correct however (MSGHD and FSNNYHD shown, NBAHD and NHLHD not shown). Until the addition of channels slows down sometime next year it will be hard for Directv to keep up unless they have weekly mailings.

Will th e arrival of the brochure generate as much excitment as to getting new software downloads?
Anyhow I have not received that but as VOS said, mail here is very slow. Takes 3 days to get a letter to our neighboring zip code!.
