Since the new HD channels were fired up I've had a problem with one BBC on my HR20-700. It was on tuner 2 and the signal meter was showing "0" on all transponders on 103b.
So I switch the BBCs and SAT feeds between tuners and the problem moves to tuner 1. I switch SAT feeds (leaving the BBCs alone) and the problem remains on tuner 1. Diagnosis = Bad BBC.
I go to directv.com and order 1 replacement BBC. It gets here, I replace the bad BBC and no dice. Same problem. Humm, could the replacement be bad? I take both "bad" BBCs to my HR20-100 and neither of them work there either. I pull the BBCs from the -100 and install those on the -700 (the original unit with the problem) and they work just fine. Okay, bad replacement BBC.
I go back to directv.com and this time order 2 BBCs. Few days later I receive 4 BBCs. My wife and I laugh hoping that at least one of these would be good. I hook up BBC1, bad. I hook up BBC2, bad. Now I start questioning my diagnosis ability and once again swap BBCs between HR20s and sure enough, the BBC is bad. I hook up BBC3, bad. Crossing my fingers I hook up the 4th and final BBC in this latest shipment (5th replacement I've received) and BINGO, it works.
So for me, it took 5 replacement BBCs to get one that works. I now have 2 REV2 and 3 REV3 dead BBCs. Just guessing here but there seems to be something lacking in the QC department for whoever manufacturers these units.
