This is really crazy. I just recently had my DirecTV upgraded to HD with a HR20-100 installed. I plugged in the ethernet in anticipation of DOD being rolled out on the 100. This evening I was a work, logged onto my computer at home with VNC and quit Azureus, a bittorent client that was running. I was IMing with my wife at the time and right after I quite the program she said a message popped up on the screen that said "Azureus has logged off" and an OK button. Huh?

Does this mean DirecTV is using bittorent to distribute DOD programming as has been speculated? Why would it know about Azureus running on my Mac?

When I get home I investigate more. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Can Azureus stream to local clients using DLNA? Couple programs can: WMP 11, Tversity, Yahoo Musicmatch, and others

When those programs are stopped, the HR20 will popup a notice that the computer has gone away.

Cheers,
Tom

Interesting. I don't know about the specific protocols Azureus supports but I know that are making themselves into a legitimate media distribution service so that sounds perfectly reasonable.

If true, does this mean that it would be using the image on my DVR's hard drive to increase the overall population of files. In other words, is my DVR pushing data to your DVR?

I think what Tom was talking about was streaming music and pictures from your local computer to your DVR. I was speculating on the use of the bittorrent protocol for DOD. Tom's explanation seems much more plausible.
