I tried to sign up for it on the 2nd of November but it wouldn't let me sign up for it(option was greyed out) , I just checked today on their website and the price went up by 7.99$ a month and its not greyed out anymore, should I contact DirecTV about it? I just got my DTV service Installed on the 1st/2nd of october.
Icewolf - The normal way to sign up for the protection plan is to go to the last page of the Change Channels section for your account. As of 1:50 PM PST today that still lists $5.99 a month as the rate. Where did you find the $7.99 figure? Post the link.

Pretty sure it's always been 7.99 for 'advanced equipment' (HD and/or DVR).

There was a time when it weas $7.99 for the advanced equipment coverage. However, now it is $5.99 / month for all equipment.

As of about the same time they went to the lease model, the PP should only be $5.99 a month no matter how much or which type of equipment you have on your account. Lot's of info in this thread from back in 2006:

Lat time I checked out channel 201 (probably back in April '07?), they even mentioned that the plan is $5.99 even if you have HD or DVRs.

for a technician to come out. Most of the time they don'0t ask, but the few times they do I just point out I subscribe to every subscription channel but Playboy, and get Setanat, NHLCI and order a lot of PPV soccer and the Euro tournament and give them a choice, come fix it or replace it for free, or I go to Dish or Cable. I am always willing to sign an extentsion on my contract which they have asked me to do a few times because I love the content of DTV. Maybe they just do it for me because of my high monthly bill or I have been around since it started, have no clue. Just FWIW.

If you keep signing extensions on your contract, then your threat to go to Dish or Cable is sort of an empty threat, isn't it?

I shut off service with DirecTV without penalties (waiting for more HD), I own my equipment, so they can't really charge me can they, except for programming? Dish Network I don't believe charges for early cancellation, and neither does cable tv, Verizon or AT&T.

No, not really, the "contract" only calls for 10 or 20 permonth of the contract so assuming I paid it it would be a month or two at most of service even if a lot of time were left AND I said they ask infrequently, which they have only done when my contract was within 6 months or so of expiring. But then again, IF DTV ever does business the way you suggest, they will only accomplish l;osing a long term customer who sepnds between 150-200 per month in exchange for getting a one time payment of 100-300 bucks from me, now that would not be too smart would it?

after this 4 months (atm paying 79.99$ NFL ST+Superfan+HD x4) and I get all the premium channels for free for 4 months, I am subsribed to the premier package, so far I am looking at 110-125$ a month at least, which it ain't bad at all, too bad I signed up for DTV and never asked to setup the automatic billpay when I signed up, because I really wanted that 50$ Visa gift card, Is there a way I can get that? I mean could a supervisor do it for me since I am subscibed to pretty much all their channels except spanish/adult channels?
