View Full Version : Install question for another line
I upgraded to the hd dvr and have another old regular receiver in another room. I am wanting to add another basic receiver to my other bedroom. How do I go about adding another line. There are 3 lines coming from the dish currently. Does anyone have a picture or can you explain how the set up at the dish is like? I really would like to have a gameplan before I climb on the roof to add anoth line. I am guessing there is some kind of splitter to plug it into.

You just need to unscrew the LNB head pull it off and connect a 4th line to the last available output on the internal multi-switch.
Then run that line to the receiver. Also add it to the grounding block.

Since you have upgraded to HD you should have a 5lnb dish, probably the Slimline. It will have four connections from its internal multi-switch, just use the unused one and you will be all set. If you need more lines, down the road, you will have to add an additional external mutiswitch. D* would provide that if you add more receivers.
Let me make sure I am understanding everything. The 4th line plugs into the dish under a cover? Which cover do I take off? Sorry for my ignorance of these dish setups.

Not a problem.
Look under the end of the LNB arm and there will be two screws. Unscrew them and the LNB head will come off.
You will see where the 3 lines are connected. There will be a 4th spot that is not connected to anything. Connect the 4th line to that spot and run the line down with the other 3 and connect it to the grounding block with the other 3.
Then run the line to the receiver.

If you remove the bolt holding the LNB assembly to the mounting arm, you should be able to pull it away from the dish a few inches, which will allow access to the connector. The new cable should be fed through the arm like the existing cables.

Be very careful not to bump the dish out of alignment. You should be able to remove the LNB assembly and add the fourth line as stated above, then reconnect the LNB assmebly without moving the dish out of alignment, but you need to be aware of taking caution with it.
Thanks. I believe I have it figured out!!
