I am trying to help my friend with her puppet ministries. Her computer died, and I did get it operating. The HD is making a screeching noise:( Its a pentium 133 with under a one gig HD, 32 meg of ram and well lots off troubles. She has little money wheres a good place to pick up a decent used cheap computer? At least a pentium 166 or better. I have a origuinal DP HD, and some odds and ends/

Any good ideas?

See if there is a "Non-Profit" computing organization in your area (start your search at any local PC users group, or even the used PC expos to see if a group even exists). That might be your best way to get a decent inexpensive pc.

Thanks. I set up a screen name for her on AOL, as part of my account. She wants e mail desperatrely. I did suprisingly get aol 5.0 to work, and might try stuffing that 8 gig DP drive in this computer. I am goiing to dig around and see if I have any old memory, I was wrong its only 16 gig. Today is garbage day, Goiing to drive around and do some shopping. With Christmas there might be a computer at trhe curb just waiting for a new home...

Check with churches in your area to see if they would put a notice on a bulletin board or in their newsletter for a donation to your friends puppet ministry. Somebody has an old computer sitting in a closet that they just can't bear to throw away, but it never gets used. Hit the garage sales early. Often times old computers or peripherals are on sale at give-away prices. Picked up a decent scanner for my daughter at a garage sale not long ago for $10.

I like www.compgeeks.com for used equipment.

www.computersurplusoutlet.com have some decent Pentium 1 systems (if you can still call a Pentium 1 decent!)

They're down the road from me which of course means I don't have to pay shipping (but do pay local taxes).

I've used them in the past to get parts for very outdated systems... they do know what they're talking about at least which is more than you can say for most of the larger retail outlets like Best Buy etc!

And they have some fairly up to date parts as well!
