View Full Version : USB storage error: drive in use by TV2

I installed a Seagate Free Agent Pro 320 drive last week and actived the external HDD storage option. I was able to move a pile of recordings over and everything seemed to be working OK. I did notice that the list did not always come back up when trying to manage the drive and it took several tries or a reboot of the HDD to get it to recognize. I have read some of the threads about that issue that seems related to drive power down.
But now I am getting a whole new issue - when I try to access the USB storage from TV1 it comes up with an error that the drive is in use from TV2. Of course, that is not the case - TV2 is not doing anything at the time.
Has anyone else seen this issue, or did I find a new problem?

Are you running your receiver in single or dual mode?
If in dual mode, perhaps someone has accessed the hard drive from the 2nd location and has not relinquished control of it.

yes - it is in dual mode, but this happens even if the TV2 has gone to "sleep". Also interesting I found out last night that it now only does it when I try to record - watching from the USB drive works fine, but when I try to send a show to it that is when the error pops up. Which pretty much makes the USB drive a useless feature....
I am not sure how the TV2 could have control of the USB drive anyway - well for sure not in my set-up because the wife uses TV2 and she doesn't even know how to use the USB storage.
I may try rebooting the 622. Rebooting the Seagate did not fix the issue.

Whoa, that's a new one. I've been under the impression that TV2 has no access to the external HDD?

TV2 access to the EHD was added in L446/L447.
c4racer, does it still have full control from TV2? You might try doing something like view an EHD program from TV2, stop, then exit via menus. Does that help TV1? If not, go for the reset. I was thinking unplugging the EHD, but you've already reset it.
Anyone else experience this?

hmm - I didn't try that - good idea - will do that tonight. The other thing it is doing is not erasing when I select a program on the HDD to delete - it doesn't do it. That is from TV1. The program that was checked for delete just stays in the list. Which is helpful..... Oh well - not bumping up against capacity limits yet, but that is annoying because you are not sure if you have watched something or not and the list becomes big too quickly and harder to manage if nothing is ever deleted. Hopefully that issue will correct itself. Otherwise I may need to bring back this Seagate Drive and try something else. I picked it up for under $100 - I guess I could always just keep it as a back-up unit for our MAC since my PC is using a Maxtor and it cannot support 2 types of OS w/o reformatting.

Just started using the EHD, a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750 GB, and have the same error message (914 is the error code given). I go to TV2 and try to send recorded material to the EHD and it gives me the error again, telling me the other TV is in control. Who is in charge is what I want to know, obviously not me!!!
Haven't yet successully moved anything to the EHD.
