Hello - I just got the HD DVR Plus packaged installed after having the standard directTV for some 8 years. I am now receiving all the channels except the local HD channels which are highly corrupted. The local HD channels come from the 99 degree satellite (spaceway2). The question i've got is this: our receiver is reporting a 97% signal strength on 5 of the 6 transponders on the satelliete but only 16% on the #3 transponder (the one i need). Given that I am receiving 5 of 6 transponders, does that eliminate a tree or something in the way of the dish? I would think that either the dish can reach the the 99 satellite or it can't ... true? If so that would mean that i have a hardware or wiring problem somewhere, not a problem with the dish visibility to the satellite. Just would like some confirmation that that is likely. thanks!

I guess you are receiving the NYC HD locals - several other people have reported the same problem and DirecTV is investigating it. As a complete guess - the spotbeams on the spaceway satellites are electronically steered and it may be there is a direction issue with one spotbeam. Certainly it looks like there is nothing wrong with your equipment or setup.
I just got off the phone with Directv and they are sending someone out Friday to look at alignment. I have the same problem here in CT - HD NYC locals from 99b look like I'm in the middle of torrential rain. Transponder 3 is always 20 or less. All others are 100 or close to it. I'll post results of visit but I'm doubtful it is the alignment.
Well Directv just left and just as I thought it was a waste of time as there is nothing wrong on my end. I'm getting 100,100,<20,98,99,100. for 99 and all other sats are in the 90s or close too it except for 119 which is blocked by tree. So no locals in HD for me since the national feed is off 119.
Any idea on when Directv will have a correction for the spot beam on 99? They must have received quite a few complaints. The install guy said he will forward info for what it is worth.

I am having a similar problem. BTW, how do you know what transponder are NYC HD locals.

D* has swapped transponders and even sats (99-103a) for HD locals in some metro areas. I have not seen a sat 99 tronsponder map and I am not sure how current the 103a map is.

I had the directv service rep come by. He confirmed that the dish has a clear view of the satellite and that my cable and connections are fine. I still don't get the local NY HD channels (in fairfield country CT a suburb of NYC) which apparently come from transponder #3 on the satellite at 99 degrees (according to directtv). That transponder still has a only a 0-20% signal strength while the other 5 transponders on 99 are above 90%. Directv cannot explain why that is but are sending yet another 'more senior' service rep to come look at it again. It seems to me that the real problem here is with the spot bean given the growing number of people reporting problems.

It used to be that TP3 on sat 99 seemed to point south. I have seen reports of high signal in Birmingham and the Dallas areas.

Scott,
Signal strength for 99 - trp#3 is a consistent 17 for me here in the Hudson Valley and my NY locals work perfectly. Your ss / aim sounds fine, another issue somewhere.

248 F1,
Are you looking at the mpeg4 HD NYC locals - 2,4,5,7 or the national feed from the channels in the 80's? I have the same problem as Scott. Picture on 2,4,5,7 HD is garbage. Every other HD channel is fine. I had my slimline installed about 2 months ago and for the first month those channels were OK. For the last month I can't watch them.

Yes, the single digit channels. This past Sunday was the only issue I've seen. Giants - Cowboys pixelated for 2 - 3 minutes in the 3rd period (no weather) but have been fine ever since.
Maybe it is a spot beam issue.

Sending another service rep out will not solve the problem. DirecTV knows about the issue and is trying to solve it.

I hope they solve it soon. They either have to fix the steering on this spotbeam or shift NYC locals to another spotbeam that cover CT. Which is pretty much any other transponder/spotbeam on 99b.

I contacted Directv second level support and they said there is not record or issue registered for this. He said he will open one. I keep seeing posts that directv is aware of this but they don't see to be. Hopefully, they are aware and fixing.
