View Full Version : DISH HD DVR and AT&T Questions
Hi All,
We're having a DISH system installed that we ordered from AT&T last week and have a few questions. We're having one HD DVR (to feed two tv's) and two other regular boxes.
We have previously had DirecTV and Time Warner HD DVR's. Both had two HD tuners and allowed us to record and watch HD at the same time. Is this the same on the DISH version?
The reason that I ask is that AT&T told me that the DVR would be hooked up to two tv's - one regular and one HD. Seems to me that if it is hooked up to two tv's then the HD tv could only have one stream? I asked DISH about it, and they told me that it can be hooked up to two tv's, but in order for the HD tv to record and watch, the second TV would not be able to be in use. Is this accurate?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help!
Michael

And a model of the DVR is ?
And a model of the DVR is ?
Unfortunately, I do not know that. They just said a DVR that will go to both Tv's.
Installation is tomorrow. Is it up to the installer, or will DISH tell me?

The model will probably be the 622, 622 HZ (Home Zone), or 722.

I know that it is NOT the homezone - I specifically did not order that option.
Ok, I called DISH/AT&T.
I did verify that I will be having a 1000.2 installed. I specifically made sure it was the 1000.2 and not the 1000 so I don't have to install a switch. I also verified that I'll be getting a 722 and a 322, for a total of four tv's.
I could add an additional 322 if i wanted, but DISH/AT&T wants $198 for it. I'll just pick one up on eBay i think!
What will the process be for me to install a 322 on my own next week?
Also, on eBay or at a store, what do i need to look for and look out for when it comes to picking one up there? I know that I need to check and see if there is a balance or it is already leased.
Thanks...
Michael

[srtike] 322 doesn't support DPP and req two coax cables; you can't add 2nd 322 w/out switch.[/strike]
Edit. Sorry, this is my error - DP322 is DP Plus compatible and will works with DPP separator and one coax from DPP LNBF or DPP switch.

I'm a newbie and certainly have little idea what I'm talking about, but DISH tells me that with the 1000.2, I can have three two tuner units.
Is this not accurate?

All dual tuner receivers support DPP.
P, is there a specific problem with the 322 that I've missed? (like the 721 couldn't use the DPP Twin until it got a software upgrade)

Umm, am I missed - when the 322 begin support DPP separator ?
Just checked Dish site - my bad - 322 is DP Plus compatible receiver.
So, yes it reqired one coax from DPP LNBF or DPP switch if used DPP separator.

To add a little detail for your set-up. What is being said is that once the 722 is installed w/ the 1000.2 dish all you will have to do is run a cable from the switch on the dish to the 3rd receiver. Make sure that you have an outdoor TV antenna so you can pick up OTA digital stations. That way the 722 can record 3 HD programs at one time 1 OTA& 2 sat channels. You can run 1 HDTV & 1 SDTV off the 722 in dual mode. The 2nd TV will be run using a UHF remote control. You will not be able to use the PIP in dual mode but gain the ability to run the 2 TV's.

To be honest, using a dual tuner DVR for two TVs is proving to be a pain in the (_|_). My wife wants to record everything under the sun (that she likes) and my 7 year old daughter wants to record her stuff. Unfortunately, recordings are "accidentally" being stopped.
There is NO WAY I would use my 722 on two TVs, too many arguments and cut off recordings that go with the territory.
Sure, using one for two TVs may be of some benefit, not in my household. Frankly, it would be great if the 722 had a quad tuner!
