For the Sony SAT HD200:
press the red button reset [under the card access door] and then hold down the right arrow & info buttons [both] to get into the service menu. Then pick the NVRAM reset option. You may even find your receiver ID there.
My receiver ID is on the label on the box of the receiver, with the serial number. FWIW

thansk for the quick reply,
the HD100 is a bit different i think, the access card is at the back.
ive managed to reset the receiver(guide + arrow down) however there is no red button on the receiver to get a detailed sys info screen

Every D* receiver has a reset button. How else could a CSR "fix it" for us.
I'd try unplugging it [to reset] and then the info/down arrow [and other buttons combinations] to get into the service menu.

So you can get into the service menu.
There isn't a NVRAM option?
What reset options do you see there?
Looking a this another way:
Can't you go through the DirecTV setup option menu?
If it's not activated, doesn't it show the access card number and ID number, when connected to the dish?

it didnt show the IRD ID in any of the menu's, however with a competent direcTV tech he was able to activate the receiver with the little information i had. which was serial number, access card # and some IRD # from the service menu.
so all is well :D

No wabbly tables?! :D Sadly, I finally de-activated my Sony HD200. It was one of my favorite receivers. Very classy look, nice menus and had a meter for OTA signal... Very nice. I may still use it one day - I just wish they sold an upgrade for MPEG4 for it. ;)
