View Full Version : Remote Booking...

I'm still waiting for this feature. Any idea how soon it might be? Every once in a while, I forget to set my DVR to record something. I would love to, while being gone and go, "oops", to be able to pull out my AT&T Tilt, sign on and "remote book" a recording.

Thanks

its still a closed beta. I put my access card on Earls list a couple of weeks ago but I think D* has enough "testers" for now.

So like you i have to wait and try to remember in advance all those programs i want to record.

do you have your HR20 networked?

The general idea is mid-next-year.

Im guessing february/march.

Mid-next-year means June (6th of 12 month is the mid-point).

That would be correct. Looks like someone payed attention in school one day!

No, I dont have any evidence to support that.

My personal guess for when the service will be available is february/march

Not intending to hi-jack...but my HR20 is networked as well. Are you implying there is a way to do remote booking via the network (not the real remote booking but a workaround)?

I think the question was asked as a baseline that you need to have that to even consider utilizing remote booking. There is no workaround or anything like that - that function will be done through a network connected DVR.

It is not necessary to have your HR20 networked for Remote Booking to work. I believe that only the confirmation emails require a networked HR20.

EDIT: I just tried Remote Booking on my non-networked HR20-100 and it worked just fine, inlcuding the confirmation email. There is absolutely no need to be networked for this feature.

Yes that's correct. You do not have to have your box connected to the internet to do remote booking.

I do have my HR20-700 box connected the network but I do not leave my router and dsl modem turned on while I'm not home - not even in standby. I'm still able to go to D* remote booking site and do a remote booking. Did 3 shows yesterday while at work. It took a while for D* to activate my account.

Some models of the R15 have remote booking in testing also...the R15 has no network connection at all. I can't wait for either the trial to be opened up again (so I can get my second dvr in) or it goes public.

How long from the time you click "submit"/"save" on the website before it hits the receiver? Seconds or minutes?

I've never seen one that was over a minute - most are seconds.
But remember - this is a limited Beta test - so you're not going to necessarily see, nor should you expect, instantaneous response when it's publicly available and has significantly higher load to deal with....
