After completing a search, pressing menu does bring up the menu, but the focus is still on the search result screen. You can't select any of the items on the menu until the underlying screen is cleared back to the current show. When this is done the focus shifts to the menu & it can be operated normally.
In case anyone doesn't understand. I'm using the term focus in the computer sense of what screen is currently active and has mouse/cursor/remote or keyboard control.
