View Full Version : 721 bug - incorrect show names when padding the start

I noticed tonight that the L1.07 update lets you pad shows more than a minute at the start. Great, I thought, and padded a couple of shows 3 minutes. However, now when you pad a show at the start, in the PVR listings it shows the name of the previous show rather than the one that was recorded.

For example, I recorded Friends. In the PVR listing, it shows Entertainment Tonight, which was on before it. I also recorded Without A Trace, and it shows up as CSI.

Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks,
Dennis

Greetings from the hospital. :)

This has been like this since the 721 came out. One cool thing is when you go to play your show it shows the Ending Show (the padded show which is ending) then the real show, you can click on the real show and start from there.

While its an oddity it comes in handy, as on mondays I record Raw and CSI together with one timer, with this oddity its easy to find the starts of each show. :)

I wish they would let us edit the names of the shows. That would be super cool and should be quite easy to implement.

Why was this not a problem with the DP?

He is in the hospital because his wife is having her first baby.

Greetings from the hospital. :)

Congrats on your new arrival. I have a 14 month old and another on the way. It's the greatest feeling in the world.

This has been like this since the 721 came out.

No it hasn't. I used to record Friends and check the 1 minute padding at the start, and the PVR listing would show Friends, not Entertainment Tonight.

One cool thing is when you go to play your show it shows the Ending Show (the padded show which is ending) then the real show, you can click on the real show and start from there.

What do you mean? After Friends was over, I looked in the PVR list and it only showed Entertainment Tonight. It didn't show Friends anywhere.

While its an oddity it comes in handy, as on mondays I record Raw and CSI together with one timer, with this oddity its easy to find the starts of each show. :)

I don't see the utility. If I want to make sure I catch the start of a show I have to remember what show is on before it so I know which one to watch. Makes absolutely no sense. I'll just stop padding the beginnigs so I can see what I actually have recorded, but miss the start of some shows. That sucks.

This has happened since the 721 has been out..
It doesn't happen all the time, not sure where it picks up that info from, maybe it should wait to record show name info till XX minutes after a timer has started..

It does break down multiple shows if the show you are recording encompasses two shows (is that a word??)
For instance I pad Giants game an extra hour, which then lists all the shows that were in the guide for that extra hour, although most of the time if the game does run long it is under those names, not the actual game..

Maybe I've been doing something different from everyone else that I never has this happen before, so let me go through it:

Typically I select the show I want to record, then (prior to 1.07) check the 1 minute prior to start and leave the 3 minutes after end. Then when the shows record, in the PVR listings all it showed were the shows that I actually recorded.

Last night, I saw that I could pad more minutes at the beginning of the shows. So I put in 3 minutes before and after Friends and 3 minutes before and after Without a Trace. Then in the PVR listings it showed Entertainment Tonight and CSI. Friends and Without a Trace did not appear at all.

So then for a test, I recorded a rerun of Will and Grace last night. I padded it 1 minute at the start and 3 minutes at the end, and the PVR listing correctly displayed Will and Grace. So maybe it has something to do with how long you pad? I'll experiment some more this weekend and see if it makes any difference.

Has anyone had problems with padding the end with about 60 to 90 minutes? I only do this when the Wild are playing on our FOXN, and they only have 2.5 hours, which is always a minimum of 30 minutes short, and that's assuming no overtime, or glass breaking. I missed the ending last night against the Oilers. It shows up as 158 minutes, and thats with starting ZERO minutes before. I am positive that I put 60 minutes in it. I never have the problem on the Center Ice channels, because there time block is 4 hours. Also note that I have had it work as well.

Jeff

PS. I have also noted the problems above pre 1.07, but rarely use the 1 minute before anymore.

Okay, I figured it out. If you pad more than 1 minute at the start, it changes the record time. If you only pad one minute, it keeps the record time but starts early.

For example, select a show in the guide that's say 5:30 to 6. Then on the record screen set it to start 2 minutes early and create the program. Then go into the PVR screen and highligt the program. At the top of the screen it will say the program is 5:28 to 6:00. If you go to edit the program, it will be padded 0 minutes at the start now, but set to start at 5:28.

Now do the same thing with another show and pad it to start 1 minute early. When you select the program from the list, it will show as being 5:30 to 6:00, 1 minute early. And when you edit the program, it is timed from 5:30 to 6:00 and still 1 minute early.

So if you pad more than 1 minute early, it changes the base time of the program. That's the problem.

I just received a reply from tech support. They said this is a known issue. So hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.
