Just about a week ago one of my two R10's downloaded some update at around 03:45am.....
After the update the unit went into a reboot loop.. rebooting every 20mins like clock work.... Did the standard clear(s), menu based resets, BRB, and power downs.... Still it would reboot.... while did not want to loose a whole season worth of a show that I had not had time to watch... tried a clear all (reformat) which broke the unit for good sending it into a reboot loop never getting to any user interface menus.... I have a service contract so D* shipped me an R15 {a whole 'nuter story about the condition and install troubles of the referb received}:nono2:
Was told I did not have to ship back the non-working R10... I have another R10 which is currently working just fine...
would I better off just eBay'ing this non-working R10 as is.. ..any offers here for one of both of my R10's to help pay for a HR20/21?
getting a harddrive kit and repairing for a back up.. ..about $125.00, I keep reading different dates as to when the R10 will no longer be supported, due to its Tivo software?

I would try to sell it as is. I can't imagine a circumstance where you could get that $125 out of a selling a repaired R10.

As far as when TiVo software will no longer be supported, the latest I've heard is February 2010. At that point the newest DirecTivo would be about four years old and I can't imagine things going much past that. Sure DIRECTV still supports UltimateTV but I don't know the details of that arrangement. I have, however, heard that a significant portion of the DVR fee for DirecTivos goes to TiVo Inc., so that's more incentive to get you into a newer receiver.

I have contacted "Weekknees" to see if they want it for parts..
..if not will hand it to my Trash Hauler later this week..
I see that even on 'eBay' the new R10's are not selling?!?

I hate to see older tech go into the trash when all it might need is a new hard-drive, but due to how cheap drives are and changes in tech everyday..
