Good morning. This is my first post. I am considering making the step up to an HD DVR. I will receive my HD locals from an antenna. I am aware the HR 20 allows viewing the locals thru the receiver, but am wondering if I can record from the local stations since they are on the antenna? Thanks for the response.

Yes you can record locals from the OTA antenna. Be sure to put your zip code in the setup so that the guide data for your local stations gets populated in the schedule.

Yes you can record them. The biggest concern these days is making sure you get an HR20 because most people are now getting the HR21, which does not have an OTA input.

Make sure you get the HR20, the HR21 does not Have OTA

:welcome_s to DBSTalk! Please make sure you tell the CSR who takes your order that HD locals over satellite are not available in your area, that you need to record from the antenna.

...and be sure to get the phone number of your installer. Once your order is "complete" with D*, make sure to call the installer and let them know you need the OTA version of the receiver, which means either an HR20-700 or HR20-100. Tell them not to bother to come until they can bring one of these two models, or you will send them packing. (Be firm but nice!)

Lastly, a day or so before the actual install, call them again. Make them check with the actual "tech" that is doing the install and ensure that they are, indeed, bringing one of the two specified models.

You can't be too careful.
