I purchased my RCA DTC100 three years ago for the Dolby 5.1 and further down the road to recieve HD (when I purchase a HD TV), I also have a 3LNB dish. For Xmas we will be getting a Sony 1080. My question is will I still be good to go? Or will I "NEED" to replace one or both components? hope fully just the dish. I also use a antenna because I am half between two broadcast areas (Grand Rapids Mi. and Traverse City Mi.) and like watching both (no can do w/locals on sat, one or the other)

Sincerely
Randy

It will still work as it does now without any upgrades. It will also work with the new 5lnb dish, but you'll need either a H20/21 or HR20/21 to receive any of the new HD programming.

Eventually all HD programming will move to the 99 and 103 sats, which require the 5lnb dish and either a H20/21 or HR20/21. So your days of receiving HD programming via the satellites are numbered - but no one knows exactly when DirecTV will make the push to convert all legacy HD equipment.

H20 is a HD receiver, HR20 is HD DVR receiver. H21 + HR21 DO NOT have OTA tuners so if you want to use your antenna for local HD you need a H20 or HR20.

or use the built in tuner in the Sony. Most Sony tuners are really great!

True dat, you can use the built in tuner in the TV. But, if you end up getting a HD DVR get the HR20 which can record OTA HD.

I have an old DTC100 in my cellar (no longer connected) In addition to the fact that it will not receive any of the MPEG4 HD channels (and the older MPEG2 ones that it does receive are eventually going away) there's another problem: The only HD output from the DTC100 is 540P over a VGA connection. This was a format that RCA was trying to promote back in the dark ages of HD. Trying to run this input into the VGA port of a modern HD monitor has proven to be problematic, so many DTC100 owners wound up buying a transcoder to convert the VGA to component.

Surprisingly, a lot of people reported getting a pretty good HD picture from this setup despite the need for the monitor to up-convert to its native rez, so it might conceivably be useful as an OTA tuner. It will tune ATSC OTA, but its guide capabilities and other functions are pretty primitive compared with the latest DirecTv HD boxes

the DTC-100 could send 1080i through the d-sub RGB connector.
