View Full Version : Quirky switch issues
I have a dish 500 system with two receivers (508 & 301). One day my 508 downstairs stopped picking up the 110 sat. I did a check switch and only showed 119. So I swapped cables to run off the other feed and works ok. The other day I did check switch on it and showed All for 119 and Odd for 110. Now works ok. What gives? PS the other feed still wont pick up 110 :( Could grounding be an issue?

I presume your LNBFs and switches are not DISHpro,
but are instead legacy dual-output?
If so, it sounds like you may have one bad cable run
(110 even feed, or possibly 110 switched feeds).
If it was good for a long time, but went bad, then I
would suspect moisture is causing the problem.
The switching voltage may not be getting through,
or it may be that the 110 even feed is blocked.
Replace as many cables as necessary with known
working fresh runs, starting with the most likely runs.
If you replace all cables and still have the problem,
replace the 110 LNBF. Make sure all of your
connections are weather-tight, use drip loops,
and protect from direct weather as much as
possible.
This advice comes from a guy who still uses screw-on
connectors, and currently lets his cables hang in a
not-so-graceful arc into a broken garage window!
 :hi:
Nope. Dish Pro equipment that was installed only in November 2002. :(

There might be something wrong with the 110 stacked feed
cable (moisture or mechanical [bend, crush, puncture) problem
might have eliminated the high-frequency half, which I think
is the even transponders). Or you might have a bad DISHpro
switch (SW34 ?) or LNBF.
You'll need special coax cable to handle the stacked signals.
Run-of-the-mill RG6 might not work.
Good hunting!

I would call dish and make a warranty claim. You cant be expected to use and pay for a service thatr isnt working.
Lets just say some DNSC installs arebnt award winning.
Whats the install warranty?
I always took care of folks I did for a year. Had one guy a LNB failed at just over a year. He only used one side of a dual LNB so I swapped sides and said hi for awhile. Really nice old couple.
He was on a fixed incomne and didnt have much from appearances.
