View Full Version : dish heater
I live in buffalo ny and with the upcoming winter and wondering of my dish will do on its first year in the snow. Has anyone ever used or installed one of the dish heaters? Any recommendations? i was looking at icezapper.com It seems pretty easy just peel and stick then plug it in. I dont want snow and ice on my dish blocking the signal. Directv mounted my dish on the roof in july and being a two story house i currently do not have easy acssess to it nor do i have a ladder that tall. thanks

Ditto re the the Ice Zapper . . . I installed one last month, but will need to wait until the first snow to try it out . . . pretty much a "peel and stick" intall. I bought mine off of ebay, where they are about $60 ($20 cheaper than ordering on other internet store fronts.
You may want to also spray down your dish and LNB with silicon. That kept my old dish ice and snow free for 8 seasons . . .

Anyone have a silicon brand suggestion that they actually use & is tested to work well?
Thanks!

I was just about to make a post about this. Last night it snowed here, but more a snow/rain combo. Anyway, my signal went out completely with the 771 message on screen and searching for signal. I checked the signal meter and all transponders were showing 0. I went outside and got this really long pool brush we have that we use to brush the walls of the pool. Our dish is on the roof so I very carefully used the pool brush to brush off the snow that was on the dish (didn't touch the LNB's). I went back inside and presto, the picture was back in. I would like to try the Silicon spray before I invest money in the Zapper. Anyone know where to buy such a spray, or has anyone actually used the silicon spray and with success? Thanks.

Any brand of silicon spray*. . . you can get it from Home Depot, Lowes or an auto parts store . .. probably on the same shelf as the WD-4 (though I wouldn't use WD-4 because it would be oily) . . . .about $3 to $4 dollars for the can.
*The brand I used the past few times was from Solder Seal / Gunk . . . got it at an auto parts store
i got my heater today. Do u guys have the new slimline dish? My heater can go on the front or back. Where did u mount yours? Anyone test theirs out yet?

Mount it to back of dish.My Ice Zapper heater works great ,it melted ice from ice storm last sat,and wet heavy snow from last nights snow storm.I have older AT9 5LNB dish.I never lost my signal. While driving to work today I noticed neighbors AT9 dish was covered with snow.
Do Not Mount Heater To Front Of Dish.
