View Full Version : Directv DSL Turn off DSL Signal ??? Help!!
Does anyone know how to get Directv DSL to turn off the signal going to a phone line so a new DSL carrier can put its signal on the same phone line?
My Directv DSL account was turned off on 12/27/02, but they didn't turn off the signal coming over my phone line. Will I have to wait until January 16th or 17th When they shut down all together?
Thanks for your help.

I think your local "Baby Bell" might be able to help. They are the ones who really service the DSL.
I called my local phone company and they said that I had to contact Directv DSL to have them turn off their DSL signal on my phone line.

Hmm, I had always thought that DirecTV had to call Verizion to turn on and off the DSL signal. Live and learn. I guess call DirecTV DSL and complain (if you haven't already done that).
You are correct. Directv DSL has to call Verizon to tell them they have a order to cancel and then Verizon turns off the signal, but Verizon can't do it by themselves because of FCC rules.

Ah, good to know if I ever get rid of my cable modem. Who did you decide to go with? Verizon?
I want to go with Verizon, but I can't get a hold of anyone at Directv DSL to have them turn off their signal to my phone line. I tried calling their Satellite customer service number and they told me t access the web site which I can't. Do I call the better business bureau to help?

According to this website...
http://www.directvdsl.com/common/jsp/contactus.jsp
Verizon
If you are a Verizon local telephone customer, you can replace your DIRECTV Broadband service with DSL from Verizon Online. If you would like to find out more about or place an order for Verizon Online DSL, click here http://www.verizon.net/promo/welcometoverizon
If you are a Verizon local telephone customer and wish to switch your DSL service to Verizon Online or another DSL provider, DO NOT disconnect your DSL service from DIRECTV, as this will result in loss of service. Contact the DSL provider you have selected, who will work to transfer your DSL service with minimal disruption. As additional details are worked out, information will be provided on the Carrier Transition page.
DIRECTV DSL customer are served by Verizon DSL in these states (some states are partial coverage): New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., Vermont, New Hampshire, Delaware, Virginia, Los Angeles, Dallas, Tampa, Seattle and Portland.
Here is Verizons DirecTV DSL page.

James, I have looked at the web sites you have listed, but I can't do anything until Directv DSL turns off their DSL signal to my phone line. I have a DSL order on hold at Verizon until this takes place. I am trying to find out how I can contact Directv DSL to have them turn off their signal.
Thanks.

The website says

According to that, you DON'T want DirecTV to turn off your DSL. Its says you tell Verizon to change your service to their system.
The Verizon page at http://www.verizon.net/offers/directv/default.asp?promotion_code=&variant=
says that you should tell the rep that you are a directv customer. I think you just talked to a bad CSR.
I understand that, but they put that on their web site after they turned off my service. My service was turned off on 12/27/02. That appeared on their web site on 12/30/02.

So Verizon is the only one who can help you according to that. I doubt you'll be able to get anyone at DirecTV DSL to help you.
I know, Do you think that they will clear all the DSL signals on the phone lines when they go dead on 1/16/03?

I would assume so. It would be a nightmare if they didn't. Who would you call? I wouldn't want to find out. :eek2:
That is what scares me. Hopefully I won't have find out the hard way!!
Try Verizon's Executive Help Line at (800) 722-2300. They should be able to help if it is a last mile issue or CO issue (which it most likely is).
Is Directv DSL ever going to shut down??
Now there in a 15 day extension. How long are they going to drag this out??
I am still waiting for DTV DSL to turn their signal off on my phone line.

I can't believe you are still having this problem. A friend here in Phoenix transfered her service by calling Qwest. They took care of everything. She was switch in about 15 minutes. Sounds like you are getting screwed by Verizon.

Did you try the Verizon help line? They can at least refer you to the right place to get help on their end.
The Verizon Help Line number that was listed is incorrect.

That's always the trouble with third party DSL. They just keep passing the buck around and subscribers just get more and more frustrated. Telco's are trying to corner this market, and by making it seem like one provider is giving you a hard time will only help them.
Go to www.dslreports.com and search around the forums, there may be others in your situation (and in your area, too) who may be able to help you by telling you what they did to get the line released.
If anyone lives in SBC territory, you only have to lose internet access for about 2 weeks. Minimal disruption, ha...
They are offering $29.99/mo for a year if you switch to them though. Same speed too (up to 1.5MB), just no static ip.
Success!! I received an e-mail and a phone call from Verizon that said I will have my DSL hooked up on January 23, 2003 by 6pm.
