View Full Version : HR20-700 Freezing on FOX OTA
Only happens when watching FOX OTA (41-1) in Louisville. Doesn't happen on any other channels. Changing channels normally clears the problem. One time I had to reboot to resolve. Any ideas?

What is your signal reading on that channel? Are you sure it's not an antenna problem?

Signal reading is in the high 70s. I don't think it is an antenna problem but I can't say for sure. The picture quality of Fox OTA is outstanding. My antenna is attic mounted and provides a solid signal on all digital OTA channels.

bad PSiP data from your local fox affiliate?
I thought that the HR20's did not use the OTA PSIP data. I believe all the needed PSIP data is in the downloaded guide data so bad OTA PSIP would not freeze the unit.
Am I really off base here?
This however would not elevate the problem if the PSIP data in the guide is bad.

Well, what is PSIP data and why would it cause the 700 to freeze while watching live TV? I first noticed this with Prison Break and NFL telecasts. It may be happening on other programs but these are the Fox programs I watch regularly.

Here is a good thread discussing PSIP.

All I know is, when the H20's originally came out, I know, I know, not exactly the same, for whatever reason, many many FOX stations caused lockups due to bad data....even though you cant scan for OTA etc..with HR machines, they must still see the PSiP data in the stream....

Previously I had an OTA UHF antenna in my attic and experienced all sorts of reception problems. Then I mounted it outside on one of the PVC vent pipes on the roof and the problems were very significantly reduced. Months later, I swapped from a Channel Master 4221, 4 bay type to a Antennas Direct SR 15 because I was getting a little multipath.
I now have rock solid receiption on all stations. I do still have another CM4221 in my attic pointing in the opposite direction to get PBS. It has a trap on it to block everything but the PBS station frequency.
Tricky stuff
