So here's the story: 2 weeks ago noticed on my HR10s that I couldn't get any channels. System would search for satellite to 11% and stop. Major bummer! HR20s (-700) just mosied along as if everything was ok UNTIL I changed to channel 244 (SciFi) and BAM! No Scifi... Surfed around some and found out all of my 119 and even 101 sat channels were out! I wasn't disappointed because it's the HR20 and I EXPECT it to be an idiot unit!
Called D* and CSR did the same troubleshooting I had already done. Determined it was the multiswitch. I said it could be the cable from the pole mounted dish or the WB68 and she said nope... so... got installers here in 2 days (YEAH!!!) Unfortunately they were space cadets. Changed the multiswitch and problems continued. Scratched their heads, went into a huddle, called their office, said they'd be back. I said go away and called retention (1-800-494-4388 and kept saying cancel until got a human in retention). Told her the problem (thanks Patrice). She sent someone else out. Sure... took another week but heck... I have plenty of stuff recorded AND was putting in 60+ hours at work so no prob.
Tech came out today. 3 minutes after doing continuity checks he pulled up the buried cable. Turns out my other contractors (landscape genius'!) had cut the cable. $104 later he replaced the cable, checked the HR10s and HR20s, tweaked the sat so the signal on all transponders are in the 96-100 range, buried the cable, cleaned up after himself, petted the dogs, and decided to not charge me the $104 (so I gave him a $60 tip instead). 22 minutes after arriving the HR10s are doing GREAT! The HR20's are still stupid units but are doing what they are supposed to do without DLB (in other words SNAFU-situation normal, all f.... .uh.... fouled up).
I decide to call retention and brag on this installer (calling a regular CSR does little or nothing with a compliment!) and the retention person was happy with me. OFFERED me $10 off per month for 6 months AND 6 months free HD service.
Here at DBSTalk we read the nightmares of installations but the reality is there are really committed installers out there. Heck when I built this house another idiot contractor missed on the plans for the dual cable lines so he put in just the regular "wire your house for cable" job. My "Move It Connection" folks did all the correct RE-wiring and didn't charge me a dime (yup... NICE Xmas tip for them that year!) AND got the complimentary phone call too!
DBSTalk install folks... thanks for your insight and help!
