I am not sure if this is the right place but I am considering a wall-mounted flat panel TV. How do those of you have have done this mount your DirecTV Receiver (and your DVD if applicable)? Pictures would be awesome, but descriptions would be very good.

Thanks in advance

My LCD in the bedroom is wall mounted and I have the receiver sitting on the dresser.

a small DVD player and CD/Clock radio normally sit on top of it.

Jim,

No pics right now but you can do a couple of things. I personally have all my receivers and AV equipment in a dedicated AV closet in a media rack. The cabling is run through the walls to behind where the flatscreen is mounted so there are no visual cables...just the TV.

My buddy has the same 42" TV but runs his cables from a dresser where he has his receiver and DVD player on it. The cables run up from the top of the dresser to the back of the TV. You can see the cables but he has a vase in front of them so it they are a bit disguised. If you go this route you can also get a product that will allow you to hide the cables behind it....but you will see the "container" for lack of a better term....that you put the cables in. It is pretty flush to the wall...another friend has this...less obtrusive than the Vase trick but you still see it.

Hope that helps!

I have the flat screen in my bedroom mounted on the wall with two of these (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11200274&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|79|47164|56711&N=4017822&Mo=5&pos=2&No=5&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=56711&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10609-Cat47164&topnav=) mounted under it. There are other models that basically do the same thing. If mounted snug enough, cables are not visible.

There are some kits that let you hide the cables in the mounting hardware for the shelves.

Pretty simple really. Trust me, I was nervous to before I took on this DIY project. Just mount the TV, drill a 2 and 1/2 inch hole in the drywall behind the TV and then down by the floor where your cables will be ran behind the wall. Make the holes vertically line up so you can just dropp your cables straight down, this will make fishing them down a lot easier.

You may want to install "grommets" to make the installation lot neat and professional. You can get grommets at Lowes, Office Deport, etc.

Thats pretty much it.
