View Full Version : Sonora in lieu of multiswitch?

If a multiswitch isn't needed (ie 4 outputs are enough) can a Sonora signal locker be used where the WB68 would normally go? It seems that it should, as you would have four lines from the dish and four lines to the DVR/receivers.

Yes, but unless you have very long lines, it wouldn't provide any benefit.

I think you'll find the Sonora is designed to work only in conjunction with the WB68 multi-switch. You might as well just get a WB616, if you want to power the LNB separately from the receiver.

As has been pointed out, NO you can't use a Sonora locker without a multi-switch.
The multi-switch will separate the SAT feeds to the different voltages, without one, each receiver will only get part of the channels since the feed will be "locked" before the multi-switch in the dish.

Thanks for the responses. I already have the WB68, but don't really need it, so was hoping to insert the Sonora instead to see if it would take care of the 771 problem, without having to add 4 short runs of RG6 between the two devices.

Would having copper clad RG6 instead of solid copper between the Sonora and the WB68 hurt anything? That's all my local electronics store has.

The Sonora solution is a bunch cheaper than the WB616, that's why I ordered one - $48 including shipping for open box item from Solid Signal.

You can usually get by with CCS for shorter runs, but its really not acceptable for longer runs.

I'm all for supporting local stores, but if they dont have what I Feel I need, I go elsewhere, like ordering it from a reputable on-line vendor

The Sonora is the "cure" for copper clad. You won't have any problems with it on the output [and little problems between it and the dish too].
The steel core is the weak point causing a voltage drop of the LNB drive voltage. The Sonora locker: boosts the voltage and inserts it closer to the dish. A true "win - win" for you.

Good to know.

Merci beaucoup.
