Does Dish send out ECMs regularly? For the last few months my 3900 receiver seems to die once every two weeks or so. It's on all the time connected to TiVo yet sometimes I come home from work and the receiver is dead, it's not putting out any video or audio. Unplug and re-plug fixes it.

Then this morning I was watching the 501 while waking up and the screen went solid green, re-booted twice and started working normally. So I get up, get ready for work, turn on the main TV with the 3900 and it's dead. Can ECMs cause this?

It sounds to me like there is something wrong with your 3900, and this morning it finished dying completely.

Dish does ECM periodically but I think your problem is hardware related.

Electronic Counter Measure. It's when Dish or DirecTV sends signals to kill hacked cards.

My 5000 has been doing this too. I have to turn it off, pull out card and re-insert it to stop black screens.

Hi,

For the past month DISH has been sending ECM's every 15 minutes solid.

My 4900s do this. Really annoying, espically if they were scheduled to record something. Although the PVRs handle nearly all of that these days.
