Ok, i have had my hr20-100 hooked up for about 3 months and never had a phone line hooked to it. Today i get bored and decide to run a phone line for it.

The problem is when i go into to setup and test the phone line fails. first i figured that it just needed rebooted as it probable deactivated the modem since it has never been used. No such luck. After reboot i got the same failed error.

Next, i unplug the phone line from the receiver and plug it into a phone and the phone works. Then i take a phone line tester to see if maybe the wires in the juac were reversed and it tested fine.

Anything else I can try before swapping out the box? Maybe new software DL or something?

Do you have voicemail on your phoneline that beeps a few times real fast to notify you that you have messages before then going to a solid dial tone? I remember that the old Hughes receivers would interpret that as a phoneline failure and I would have to clear the messages to enable the phoneline to be detected by those receivers.

Yes, i have the verizon voicemail package. I will try to clear the messages and see if that works on the hr20, however on a side note my r15 phone line is working fine.

The HR20 does not like voicemail beeps. Thinks it is a bad line.

right before i picked up the phone to clear out the messages, i got a call and the caller id worked - however, a test after the call still showed a failed line. Cleared out the messages, checked the phone to make sure it went to straight dial tone, which it did. Retested and it showed the line was good!

Thanks for your guys help! If this seems to be a problem with this model, they should have a place in the setup to select if you have voice mail or have to dial a # for an outside line. I know it's possible because i was on a service call one time and ran across a receiver that had it. Although i think it was a tivo box.

thanks again.
