View Full Version : HD Equipment/Upgrade Pricing for Existing Customers
Hello,
Been a D* sub for almost 8 years. Doing the preliminary work for the new HD + DVR receiver and 5 LNB install I am planning to get in the next month or so. Best price they are telling me is $299. Are they offering any incentives for longtime customers or is this $299 what everyone is seeing as well? Already have 2 receivers, one being a standard def TiVo box.
I understand I need new equipment for the additional programming but was hoping to not have to shell out $300.
Depends on what department and what person you get on the line at DirecTV. Make sure and talk to a person in the "Retention" department, that is where you will get the best deal, I just upgraded to 2 HD DVR and 2 HD Rec. for a total cost of $105 after credits and the $10/ month off my bill for 12 months, and I bought all of the equipment (incl the 5lnb dish) at a local store and installed it myself which I think maybe why Directv may have been more giving, being that they did not have to pay someone to come and do it for me. I have also been a customer since early 1994.

You can play CSR roulette...but D* has gotten tight on the deals of late.
Past payment history and programming comes into play as well.
Been a customer about the same length of time as you and in a similar situation. I was able to get a free HD upgrade in October by going through retention and mentioning Dish's HD offer. This post explains what I did: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=1282131#post1282131
Thanks for all the replies and input. I am a month or so out now so I guess I will have to deal with it when the time comes. Was hoping to not have to play hardball :eek2:

My buddy had the same problem as you but worse, he was still in a contract. He called them and asked how much to get out of his contract. They asked why and moved him to retention. He ended up upgrading his hr10-250 to the hr20 and free install with the new slimline dish for 199.00. He got enough service credits to more than make up the cost.....

Call and when you get the automated system asking you what you want to do say "cancel". When the CSR asks why say you want to go to Dish since you get hardware for free. I wound up getting an HR20, a regular HD receiver, hd programming for 6 months and free hbo/starz for 6 months. This is with the new dish and install as well. It cost me 125 bucks. Not the greatest deal, but not terrible.

Lots of people have used these:

Back before the new HD channels, you could get deals for $20.
Since the new HD channels launched, their challenge is to keep demand down enough to be manageable.
Still, try the tips.
