I saw a list of new features that are available on the PVR 50x's at http://jssatellites.tripod.com/dishpro501pvrinformationsite/id1.html and noticed the "Local Channel Mapping" feature listed.
I cannot however figure out how to set these up. I looked in the manual that came with my 508 and downloaded the current manual from www.dishnetwork.com and neither mention it, that I could see at least.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Thanks a lot.
Nick
Check your software version..it should be P167..If you just recently installed the 508 turn off the receiver overnight. It should have local channel re-numbering in the next day or so..To find out the software version..menu-6-1-3 (on your remote) will get you to system info screen..near the bottom will be the number..if it is lower than 167 then you need to let it down load..turning off the receiver will do this. Also you have to set the receiver to accept downloads this is done by menu-6-1-5 Make sure the receiver is checked for downloading without permission.
It sounds more complicated then it is :In summary
1. Make sure you are set for download w/out permission
2. check your software version
3. leave the receiver off overnight..(new downloads usually happen around 3AM)
The renumbering should occur in the next couple of days.
Hope this helps you

I just checked my version and it is 167 (plus some letters). Are you saying once it is this version or higher I must wait a day or two for the option to become available?
Thanks again for all the help, I appreciate it.
Nick
Does local channel mapping mean those local channels carried by dish will be shown as the actual channel number, or does it mean if you have OTA channels it will incorporate them into the guide?
Sometimes it takes a day or two to set up everything..The key is leaving your receiver off overnight. I have a 501 that I have had almost a year and it is still 0n 167. That is the version that has the Dish Home on channel 100. Plus you have to be subscribed to your local channels (I just assumed you were)

It means that The Locals you get from Dish..(I am in Cleveland Area so my local channels show up as 3, 5, 8, 19, 25, 43, 49 55, and 61) Will show up on the OTA channel numbers.

Hey, thanks for the info and the welcome. I tried to login with username but must not be active yet...but thats again for everything. I'll wait for a couple days and see what happens.
Wanna answer one more??? ;-)
Does the pvr 508 have a 60 minute pause limit? I have been foolin' with mine tonight, sense I just got it, and it seems to un-pause after 60 minutes. It lets me pause again but it keeps un-pausing. Any idea??
Thanks again for the help.
Nick
Sorry..not sure about that one Nick..I havent used the pause/rewind as much..at least not enough to know about a pause limit

Actually, played with it a bit more and its actually limited to just over 60 minutes, no clue why as it has the capability to record 60+ hours, but that seems to be the case....for now at least.
Thanks again.

The 508 has the same pause limit as the 501, which Dish describes as "about an hour". It seems they reserve a fixed size storage area on the drive for buffering the current show (when not recording it) and that equates to about an hour. With sporting events or a show with rapid changes of the entire screen, the time will be a bit less, with more static imags a bit more.
I wish this was an adjustable setting, so a user could reserve more or less of the drive for this use.

Both.
Only the channels provided by DISH Network are mapped on the 508.
