4 months ago I paid $249.99 for the 2x Cendyne OEM, this is a great deal for those who have decided to go the "-" media way. Only issue is finding the 4x DVD-R media (the speed ratings are more stringent than the CD-R ratings) But they are starting to hit the market.

wait. They're getting better, cheaper and dealing with more formats -R(W)/+R(W).

The Sony 500UA seems to be the best decision out there right now.

I will never ever EVER * * E V E R * * buy anything from Cendyne.

They take months to put out updates so that their drives will work with current software. I'm not talking esoteric software - I mean things like Easy CD Creator.

And the updates are nigh-on to impossible to understand when they fail (and they will). Their website is horrible, they don't answer their emails or respond to their own BBS.

THAT is why they are so cheap!

For the DVD-RWs Cendyne are OEMs of other vendors (you may get a Cendyne whether you buy from them or not). It is up to Poineer to put out the SW patches for this drive. Don't blame Cendyne. As for Easy CD Creator, it is up to Roxio to release the SW (now is it Cendyne that is not passing the info the Roxio or is it Roxio that is not jumping to demand). Do you have any proof it is Cendyne and not Roxio that is at fault. Now I know Cendyne seems to be partnered with Nero, so it could be politics by either Roxio or Cendyne at work here, but again you have given no proof who is at fault.

Yes their web site is horrible, but I can get everything I need from Pioneer.

If it were only them I would not buy from them, but since this product is a Pioneer I don't feel like I am stuck with Cendyne only.

Actually the word is still out on how well the dual +/- drives work. There is alot of discussion on getting both sets of media to work (more often than not, it is user error) but the Sony 500UA and its like are still a little bleeding edge. And the dual media drives are around $50-$100 more expensive than the single media drives.
