TWC in Florida has said it is dropping the SUN sports network. I believe this is the equivalant to NESN that covers New England. The reason was the same as DISH said they might have to drop NESN, because of escalating costs.

Abstract:
The 10-year-old contract between the Sunshine Network and Time Warner Cable expired as the new year rang in, but Lightning fans won't begin feeling the pinch until Tuesday, when the first Sunshine hockey broadcast of 2003 - the always-popular Tampa Bay-Detroit game - will be absent from Time Warner systems.

Is this the same as the Sunshine network?

Yes, I should have said the Sunshine Network.

I guess E* and D* will gain a lot of sells in Florida :D. I remember reading about this dispute in the Orlando and Tampa newspapers when I was visiting at Christmas time :).

Time Warner may be shooting themselves in the foot on this one. The Sunshine Network carries the Tampa Bay Lightning games, plus several other Florida sports programs. I have both DirecTV & Time Warner so I'm only marginally affected.

Here in St. Petersburg & the county that we are located in has a second cable company that is available to all residents. That one is known as Americast, they still carry the Sunshine Network. If I only had cable I would definitely switch to the competition over this. On top of this Time Warner locally has announced a rate hike that goes into effect this month. :(

TWC has done the same with Fox SportsNet North here in Minneapolis. I can no longer watch the Wild, Timberwolves, Gophers hockey, etc.

Now I've just got to figure out if I should go with Dish Network or DirecTV. Will the satellite picture still get messed up in rain storms, snow storms, etc.?

Depends - with a properly aimed dish, it takes a REAL storm to knock out my Dish signal.

The other consideration is how much you view the MPEG artifacts - which show up more on a bigger screen than a smaller one - i.e. I find DIsh's picture on a 27" Sony Analog TV to be fine, but other's with a big screen HDTV Ready set would complain long and loud about.
