Bill Maher is returning to TV. He is hosting “Real Time With Bill Maher” on HBO. It is about politics and current events, so I am posting this here. I'm looking forward to watching this, but something I read chilled my blood cold.
“Unlike the nightly ABC show, which featured an ever changing mix of participants, the new one will draw from a pool of about eight regulars.
Among those participating in the first show, Maher said, would be comedian Larry Miller and conservative commentator Ann Coulter. “
I guess the only saving grace will be this:
the 46-year-old comic described the show's goals this way: "To keep everybody honest; to note that what public figures say, they then have to do; and when they don't, to point out that discrepancy and to mock it."
Maybe Annie will finally get some redass from Maher as she tries to spin what Dubya, Dick, Ari, Condi and Rummy say as opposed to what they do.

Yeah, Right! Ann eats liberal commentators for breakfast. Remind me never to piss that woman off. Watching her hand Maher his ass every week should be fun, unless of course he follows his old format: make sure there are 4 liberals and only one conservative and have the liberals practice that time honored liberal debate tactic, "The Shout-down".

You are joking right? Liberal debate tactic? More like a conservative tactic. Have you seen Fox News or listened to Rush? Anyways, Maher is a Libertarian (not Liberal) and will keep Ann's hysterical rantings in perspective.

Correction Tim, Maher calls himself a Libertarian! He is an unreconstructed Hollywood liberal, through and through. If you want to know what a real libertarian looks and sounds like (and I should know since I'm registered as one), try reading a book from, listening to the radio show of, or reading the web blog of... NEAL BOORTZ!
Do a web search if you've never heard of him.

WHAT? What Hollywood liberal is for Racial Profiling and other "Non-politically correct" things Maher is for. Maher may not be as straightline "Libertarian" as Neal Boortz (only heard snipets of his radio show), but Maher is no Hollywood Liberal, and probably the only one close to "Libertarian" point of view on television. Rosie O'Donnell is a Hollywood Liberal, Sean Penn is a Hollywood liberal, Maher is nothing like them. If you want to come up with a new term that is fine, but unreconstructed Hollywood liberal is just outright incorrect when describing Maher. If you put Maher in the category of unreconstructed Hollywood liberal, then that would allow Colin Powell to be categorized as a member of the Christian Coalition or Moral Majority. Which would not be very accurate.
I think Maher agrees with the quote from the Libertarian Web Site www.libertarian.org "All libertarians would agree with the old Jeffersonian motto, "That government is best which governs least"
Maher tends to be called a liberal because of his support of legalizing marijuana and for his barbs about Bush.

djlong, Don't many libertarians believe in legalizing Marijuana and critcizing the current president (Republocrat or Demolican). That dosen't make them liberal? At least to me todays liberal (as the term has evolved over the years) wants the gov't totally out of the BEDroom but wants government totally controlling the BOARDroom

Maher has become a lot more liberal in the recent years. Now legalizing marijuana is about the only thing that he supports from the libertarian agenda
This is great news...
Anyway you look at it the new 'Bill' show won't be censored!!
I wish 'Howard' would be cancelled....
...So it could be revived on HBO!
gcutler,
Correct - note that I said he gets *called* a liberal for those reasons. Didn't say he *was* one :-)

What's so bad about "Liberal?" Doesn't that mean "Free?" Isn't that the basis of this society?
On that note, "Conservative" means "Resistant to change." Isn't that a bad thing in such a dynamic world?
Just my 2p.

conservatives do the "shout-down" even worse: they smile the whole time they're screaming. That dopey "conservative smile" drives me nuts. It's so self-righteous... as if they think they're the only ones going to heaven when they die...
McLaughlin:liberal shout down vs conservative shout down...WRONG!!!!
