View Full Version : NBA LP & HD Question

Okay, I am still trying to figure out when I should and when I shouldn't expect an NBA game to be shown in HD via LP. Being a Celtics fan, I haven't been paying much attention lately as they have been playing so many nationally televised games. However, in looking at the schedule for Sunday, the Celtics are hosting the Cavaliers. This game will be shown in HD on CSNNE. It is not listed as in HD on LP.

So my question is this: will I be able to see this game in HD? Will it show up on 751-1 in the guide between now and gametime? Will I be able to see it on 620-1? I was under the impression that LP would carry all games in HD that were in HD on the home RSN if DIRECTV carried that RSN in HD. Is this accurate?

i've run into this a couple times myself... when the home teams RSN has the game in HD... and for some reason directv doesn't...

Screwed up again today. Celtics game in HD on 620-1 is not showing in LP and blacked out on RSN channel, but is available in SD.

This stuff needs to be fixed.

Agreed. Is this a DirecTV call, or the NBA?

I'm pretty sure that this one is on DirecTV.

Gotta be a money thing. Can't understand why they can't just charge what they need to charge to make sure that games that are being broadcast in HD be shown in HD.

Maybe Earl or somebody in the know could chime in?

Yes This is very bad!!!!!! Where is the HD feed of the CAVS-CELTS????? This is happening much to much with LP and CI!!!!!!! I happen to be a fan of the Mets Jets Nets and Islanders so I am taken care of with local HD coverage(I also have cable to cover MSG/FSN NY HD) Therefore, 75% of the reason I buy these packages is for HD!!!!! We really need solid answers here!!!!! SATELLITERACER you have been terrific and your time with this stuff is well appreciated. Are these just flat out errors with Directv or is this just choice??? For example today having bandwith issues with NFL Sunday Ticket?

Yes we are having some of the same problems with NHLCI.

Bandwidth should no longer be an issue or an excuse as D* has these new channels on the new satellite. If people with old equipment want to watch the games in HD then they need to upgrade to the new equipment just like the rest of us did.

I'm also getting a 'not available in your area' message when selecting the RSN HD feed for the home team, which makes no sense for LP subscribers. I think someone at DirecTV has to map the league pass channels, and they are failing to do so. There are NO HD games scheduled on league pass today or tomorrow, even though there are HD games on the schedule that are carried by DirecTV.

I had the same thing happen ,luckily i recorded it on the sd channel 751,I knew this would happen today because it's sunday, and directv removes some HD channels like TNT HD and some pay per view channels because of NFL SUNDAY TICKET HD GAMES! ,They will most likely continue to do this until the end of the regular NFL season sunday games!

I emailed DIRECTV and got this response (partial):

I want you to know that DIRECTV is working to provide an impressive lineup of NBA games in HD on League Pass. From November to mid December, we will be ramping up our HD League Pass offerings, building towards our goal of providing up to 12 HD games per week on League Pass by mid-December.

That is not what I hoped to hear. :nono2:

This is the same BS they have been peddling since the beginning of the season. They will NEVER have all of the games in HD even if every single minute of all the games are in HD. They will claim they don't have the bandwidth, but we know that isn't the case. It's a $$ thing. The NBA, not the NHL different entity, is allowing only selected games to be rebroadcast for LP. Even D* doesn't know which games they will get from month to month...They can't even publish a schedule showing which games will be in HD and which ones will not...

Call D*, be polite, get your $10 a month credit for a year and pay $40 for NBALP. Last year, I got NBALP for free after all of the credits and this year it will be about $40. Hey, hold up your end of the bargain and I won't bitch and complain, be forthright, tell it like it is, don't sugarcoat it and tell us "up to 12 HD games a week." Heck there are upwards of 40 games a week. Yes, I know... some are on ESPN and TNT, but I'm talking about RSN games. There are a lot more than 12...again, NHL is a different entity, but a similar problem...

Read my post above, the NFL games should have no effect whatsoever on the new HD RSN's as they are on a different satellite.

I am also irritated with this because I feel deceived.

They offered the first week of the season as a free preview, so I waited until that week to see how many HD games they'd be offering. For that week, the answer was alot. It seemed almost every game was in HD. I waited because I did not want to subscribe unless the games would largely be HD. Hoops looks like crap in SD.

Now that they've got my $, it seems like hardly any games are in HD. Guide shows NO HD games this evening, or for that matter in next few days (though I realize the guide might not be correct yet for the future days.)

I guess then I'm not REALLY seeing the Knicks in HD on MSG HD or the Suns on NBATV HD .....

I missed the NBA HD channel - you're right that apparently the Suns game will be on later.

But, the Knicks on the NBA channel of 753 is on in SD.

I just tuned to ch 621, and you're right it is in HD. However, the guide does not say its in HD, which is what I was searching on. Typically when I try to watch any game at all on one of the regional networks I get the 721 error and have to watch it on the 750+ NBA pay channel. In fact, until I just now turned off the "HIDE SD Duplicates" option in my HR20, channel 621 didn't even appear in the guide. Looks like there is a guide issue for them.
