so i just want to make sure I understand how the eSata drive will work with HR20.

Right now the internal drive that the HR20 came with is pretty full. If I plug in my External FreeAgent Pro drive, I will not have access to the shows recorded on the internal drive unless I Unplug my FreeAgent Pro from my HR20? From what I understand through reading the forums is that you can record onto and watch from either the internal drive (when nothing is plugged into the HR20) or the External drive when it is plugged in. And as far as recording goes, if nothing is plugged in, shows will get recorded to the Internal Drive, If the FreeAgent pro is plugged in, it will get recorded to the That.

I just want to make sure that after I plug in my FreeAgent pro, that the shows that have been previously recorded on the Internal drive will still be accessible - all I have to do is unplug the FreeAgent pro to accomplish this?

Finally every time I want to record/access shows on the FreeAgent pro, all I have to do is plug it in, or do I have to go through this process that I read elsewhere on the forum :

1. Shut down HR20 (Power completely off)
2. Connect HR20 to the Drive with an eSATA (Not USB) connection
3. Powered up the Drive.
4. After the drive had spun up. Power on the HR20

I would appreciate any help. Thanks guys.

You'll have to go through the whole power down/connect/boot process every time. As all of your settings are on the drive, so you'll end up having two sets of everything.

I think you'll end up not liking switching back and forth, and it's probably just better to make a clean cut and be done with it, IMO.

Ok, so I understand I will have to go through all the steps to get to access the eSata drive. Does that mean to do the reverse (to access the Internal drive) I have to unplug the eSata drive and power down the HR20 and wait for it to boot up, or will unplugging the eSata drive do the trick on its own?

I wouldn't unplug the eSata while it or the HR20 is powered up, it might hurt something. Do some work ahead of time, like write down all of your series links, whatever you had on the internal will probably come back as reruns. When everything is powered up, you have to reinput the series links.
