TOSLink - optical cable question

I have good news, I have unpacked the Sony STR-DG 510 surround system and have been slowly trying to hook every item.
I need to know, is the TOSLink cable the same as a digital optical cable?

Then why can't I get it to fit the connection?

It's keyed. Make sure you are lining it up correctly.

Another thing to check is at the end of the cable there is a small plastic protective end cap that has to be removed before you plug it in.

I had to figure that out too.

SO THAT'S WHY I COULDN'T GET IT TO FIT!
The round plastic cap on the end has to be removed?
Damn, I should really do these hook ups when I'm sober. . .
