I currently have a round dish with 2 R15's, dual RG6 cables from the dish to inside on a 2x4 multiswitch. I want to upgrade to a HR20/21 in the living room. How would i configure it? I think the AU9 has 4 cables off the lnb's. Can i put a multiswitch at the dish to run signal into the house on the existing dual RG6 cables i have buried and keep the 2x4 multiswitch inside to run both the new HR20/21 and my other R15?

Thanks

hey steely,

If your total tuner usage would be 4 or fewer going forward, you could eliminate the switch (which is not supported for what you want to do anyway) because the Slimline has a built-in 4 tuner switch.

So 2 lines each from the dish directly to your DVRs would do it.

If more than that may be required going forward, you would replace the switch with a Zinwell WB68, run 4 lines from the dish to the switch, then run up to 8 lines from the switch to your receivers.

To emphasize one important point - no you cannot do what you want with only 2 coax coming in from the dish. You will need two additional coax minimum.

Thanks Carl6, yes, as it appears the OP mentioned "buried cable", this is an important point to stress depending on how he needs to get from the new dish to the house/switch.

Thanks for the replies. So i will need to run another dual line from the dish to the house, making a total of 4 lines from the dish to inside the house, and i can do away with the multiswitch i have now? Is this the only option? I really wasnt looking forward to digging up the yard again, its about 100 feet from the dish to the house.

Thanks

well it's not the ONLY option, but in order to have more than the one HR-20/21, then yes it is the only option.

You need one of 2 scenarios as mentioned above:

2 lines each running from the dish to the receivers, or if using a multiswitch - 4 lines running from the dish to the switch.

The only other thing possibly is SWM (Single Wire Multiswitch), but I don't know if 4 lines may still be needed from the dish (someone here will know), and SWM is also not widely available yet.

SWM needs all four lines into the switch but, it can be done at the dish and the receivers must be SWM compatible.
