I am trying to figure out what is going wrong with a DTV R10 receiver. All was working well until yesterday morning, when the unit would all of a sudden display "searching for signal". I spent all last night resetting, unplugging, changing cables, alternating tuners and running through the set-ups. It is still doing it today and on some occasions displaying a message stating "Sat failure error". I have two other non-DVR HD receivers that are working fine and no errors are being reported. Since I am at work, I have been monitoring the R10 via a slingbox and here is what has occurred; 10:15AM no picture, 11:45AM normal tv viewing, 2:30PM normal tv viewing and now at 2:35PM no picture/searching for signal being displayed. On two occasions, I have even seen a change in the system information section to "Account Closed call 1-800-Directv. When the receiver goes back to "normal" this same section will display "Account in good standing" and no, my account is up-to-date with Directv. Any suggestions? Advice? Can this problem be temporary? Hardware issue? Software isssue? Or is the receiver just dying a slow death? Many thanks.

First thing to try is rebooting the Tivo .....
Disconnect power, wait 30-sec, reconnect power. See if that solves it.

Next step is to rule out a problem with the satellite cable feeding your R10 .....
Move one of your HD Receivers to that location to verify that the feed is good. If the satellite feed is good then something is wrong with the R10. Do you have both tuners connected?

Thanks litzdog911 for your reply. I did the rebooting multiple times and no change. I have moved one of my Sony Sat300 to the R10 location and it booted up, found the Sat, updated the guide and displayed the Sat feed just fine. One the R10, I only had tuner 1 being utilized, but I did try last night switching to only tuner 2 and had the same on and off results. Anything else that you might suggest or is it time to look into a replacement for the R10?

Update. It now appears that it is the Sat line after all as the HD box ended up losing the Sat signal also. Just to confirm, I have moved the R10 in question to another location and it appears to be working fine (knock on wood). So, I guess this weekend's project will be running a bit of RG6 coax. Thanks.

Be sure to check the satellite/multiswitch end of that satellite cable. It might just be a loose or corroded connector at your dish/multiswitch.
