I called in yesterday to get the free 3 month Starz trial. No problem, the CSR knew all about it. The main requirement was to be on Autopay, which I already am. When I got home last night and went to check the channels Starz had not been turned on but all of the Cinemax channels had. Figuring I was about to get charged, I called and it turns out there are two promotions going through the end of this month for Free 3 month trials of Cinemax and Starz. They are different promotions so you have to ask for them separately. The Cinemax is free for 3 months. The Starz promotion requires you to fill out a downloadable rebate coupon and mail it in. Possibly this has been posted somewhere else but my searches didn't bring it up. Both promotions are good through the end of December. Hopefully these will be better than the Showtime promotion that I just finished.

I knew about the Starz and was just getting ready to drop Showtime and add that channel.

When I just called I asked about the Cinemax preview and the CSR didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about.

Anyone else have success getting this added?

What do you have to do to get these offers?

Is it the subscirbe for 3 months and get a rebate deal or something else?

There's a rebate form on the dish site. You have to send that it as well as copies of 3 months worth of bills.

You get $40 back after having Starz for 3 months

Thanks, I was hoping it was some other promo since I hate dealing with rebates. To many companies don't fulfill their end of the rebate until after you call/email to see why you haven't recieved the rebate.

Okay about the Starz rebate thing.

So you can send the rebate coupon after December 31st right? Just as long as you subscribe to Starz before December 31st. Because in order to get 3 billing statements showing you have the Starz, you have to wait 3 months from now.

rebates from E* are an exercise in patience, persistence and anger management.

For the Starz rebate, you have to return a copy of your 3 bills that show that you subscribed to Starz for 3 months along with the Rebate Coupon. So, you cannot do that until after you have subscribed for 3 months. The submission must be postmarked no later than 5/18/07 and received by them no later than 5/22/07. There is a check Status website for the rebate and it says to allow 6-8 weeks. Clearly a Dot your I and Cross your T type of submission.

In the case of the Cinemax deal, there is no charge on my bill for Cinemax. I would assume that after 3 months charges would appear if I do not cancel.

The CSRs I talked to yesterday were in the Philippines.

I have to say I was disappointed in my Showtime preview, too. I watched 3 or 4 movies in the 3 months...maybe!

Episodes 1,2,3 were the first thing I programmed after checking the guide.
I am looking forward to them.

Was anyone else able to get the 3 free months of Cinemax?

If so, what was it you asked them for?

Why is their no mention of it on Dishnetwork.com ? When the Showtime special was running it was listed on the website, the current Starz special is listed on the website. The only offer for CineMax is for new subscribers to get HBO and CineMax free for the first 3 months. Nothing mentioned about Cinemax

I called D* and was told the only Cinemax offer they had was to get it for a year for a penny if I signed up for Credit Card auto pay.

The strange thing was that I didn't call and ask for it. I called and asked for the Starz Promotion and when I got home, Cinemax was turned on but Starz wasn't. I called again and talked to a different CSR and she said that Cinemax was free for 3 months and no charges would appear on my bill. With Starz, she said I would be charged for it but I could download the rebate coupon and send in copies of 3 months of Starz billing. Both of these CSRs were very clear in what they said, their English was excellent. She initially quoted me a new bill price that was too high because it included charges for Cinemax and then she apologized and said the bill was less and I knew from the previous Showtime charges that this was the correct amount for billing on Starz bun not Showtime. Clearly I will check my first bill to make sure it is proper. The only other thing I notice is that when I call in it always says I am one of their preferred customers. I assume lots of people get that message. I subscribe to Top 250, HD package, no premiums other than these previews, 622, 508 and a 311 for receivers and I am on Credit Card Autopay which was one of the requirements.

It was offered to me when I upgraded to HD a couple of weeks ago. The only stipulation they gave me is that i'd have to call and have it removed in three months if I decided I didn't want it after that.

OK, I am feeling a little more relieved now.

Yeah about the Starz offer, you have to pay the downgrade fee for that don't you? Because unlike the Showtime you get that money back from a rebate.

Just getting the episodes 1-3 of the starwars series in HD is worth the downgrade fee.

I checked out episode 1 of Star Wars last night and it does not appear to be real HD. Looks like some sort of upconversion. I think a standard DVD may be better than what this was.

I don't think Star Wars has been mastered yet for any kind of HD delivery. Just like you surmise, probably the currently mastered SD (DVD) upscaled. But even HD on Dish is compressed vs Blu-ray or HD DVD. So I wouldn't be surpised if the DVD itself is still better. :)

I sgned up for Starz in December, just got my bill to print (the pdf prblem is another thread) but the bill just says
"DISH HD with 2 Premium package"

Am I suppose to presume when I send in my 3 months bills for the rebate they will figure it out?

Called last night and got Skin-emax for a year for 1 penny, can't complain there. Just had to be on autopay and paperless billing. I was already doing that.

Good question. I'd like to know the answer to that too if anyone knows. As I did the 3 free months of Showtime and am doing the Starz rebate thing now (there was one month where they overlapped).
