View Full Version : Here is the simple reason why NFL-ST is worth the money for me.

I live in Redskin territory. Because of the NFL rules and the Redskins play at 1 PM as well as the Dallas vs. Detriot game, I will not see the game on my local channel.

I do however get to watch it on NFL-ST. There have been many games this year that Dallas has been seen nationally or becasue they play in the NFC East I get many of those games locally. For those several games that I normally wouldn't get to see because of the Skins, I find the NFLST a very good value and well worth the money. Not to mention being able to watch more playoff impacting games as the season winds down.

Why go to a bar....get drunk cheaper at home and I have to assume have cleaner bathrooms. :p Not to mention being able to pause while using said bathroom.

Just my .02 I find the NFLST very much worth the money. Just sayin'.

While I have favorite teams, I enjoy football in general and will watch whatever games are being aired locally.

For me, NFL-ST isn't worth it. Just sayin'

I have a similar reason.

This week, the Browns/Jets game is a late game for some reason. So, here in CLE we don't get to see the Pats/Steelers game because it is on at the same time.

Thank goodness for NFLST. :D

While I have 2 favorite teams (the Packers and whomever is playing Da Bears) and a third favorite team during this time of the year (thems that helps the Packers the most in the Playoff hunt :)), I am very, very happy with NFL ST so I can watch all them teams at once if need be. :)

Go Packers! (and Lions and Seahawks). :)

Happy Holidays!

I have had NFL Sunday Ticket since day one. Here in South Dakota, I don't get many of my Steeler games on TV, but NFL ST was a Godsend. Don't remember the cost back then, but it was really reasonable, but now, not so much.
But, I will get it, as long as I can afford it. Kinda sucks when you see the bill, but, hey, I gotta see my Steelers :)

For me, it's got to be getting around the stupid broadcast rules, which I still don't fully understand even though I've read them multiple times.

The area I'm in is considered a local market for both Philly and New York for most sports, but the NFL throws Pittsburgh (Approx 289 miles away, vs 90 for Philly or NY), so between local rules, from time to time we'll only get one game broadcast locally on a weekend.

That, and being a Bucs fan in PA means ST is essential :D

I no longer live near my team and NFL-ST lets me see them every Sunday. That is well worth the money to me. The funny thing is I purchased season tickets for the local NFL team and my reason is because they are in the same division as my team and I am guaranteed to see them one game. NFL-ST is much cheaper.

After 9 years of ST, I am planning on not renewing next year. I only needed it for a couple games this year. That may change if a time comes when the Pack is not chosen as the national game very often. Ironically, it is the HD that makes it not valuable enough. I can't stand to watch in terrible SD, and I can't justify paying an extra $99 on top of the increasing renewal rate for a few games a year I really want to see.

Before the NFL ST, I could see 0 - 2 Chiefs games per year.

Even then, they were usually carried on our local NBC affiliate which has the worst OTA signal in the history of broadcasting. Even on a good day, the snow is pervasive. Yes, KTAL Channel 6, I'm talking about you.

With the ST, I haven't missed a game in over 8 years.

I, too, am in Cowboy country and we get all the Cowboy games. Man, if I had become a Cowboy fan instead of a Chiefs fan, I could have saved thousands of dollars.

The 3 reasons I get Sunday Ticket because I don't need it to watch the Ravens games because I am in the Baltimore market.

1) I am in a few Fantasy Football leagues and I have 3 TV's plus my slingbox setup in my basement so my friends and I can watch up to 4 games at a time.

2) The Ravens normally are at 1 p.m. and the Redskins normally play at 4 p.m. and I hate watching the Redskins so I have my choice of what other game to watch.

3) Like HDTVsportsfan said the last 4 or 5 weeks it is nice to be able to watch games that have a meaning for the playoffs and this year is a big one since my Ravens have no chance.

Yeah I hear you. I live in Eagles territory. Luckilly the Cowboys are in the NFC East so I do get to see the majority of their games. Last year only one game wasn't aired here. This year todays game will be the third game this season not on due to the Eagles conflict. Luckilly I have a friend with the ST so I can watch it there. Maybe next year I'll subscribe to ST. It's just so damn spensive.

I have 2 favorite teams...The Bears and whoever is playing the Packers (yea, I'm talking to you Tom!). What pains me is that I have Favre on one of my fantasy teams. Yikes!

Anyway, without Sunday Ticket I'd only get to see my Bears 4-5 times a year (when the play the Lions twice, during the Lions bye week and the odd week that CBS has the Lions). This year would have been more since the Bears got a few night games due to going to the Super Bowl but next year it will be back to just Sunday's for the most part.

And being a HUGE fantasy football nut it's just plain a requirement to have Sunday Ticket.

Sunday Ticket works out to be $13.50 a week in season. If you actually paid full price for Superfan it would be $19.30 a week.
I'd spend $13.50 in the first hour in a sports bar.

And actually that's what's going to happen today since my LNB is on the fritz I'm missing quite a few transponders on 101 which will include many ST channels. So I'm heading to the bar with a few friends (good to socialize once in a while) and I'll probably spend $40 easy. A couple $11 beer tubes will do that to ya. :)

It is expensive.....I've had NFL-ST for 13 years now, but being able to watch all the games in my own home, on better setups than you'll have at a majority of the bars is priceless.
Even when Dallas went thru 3 straight 6-10 seasons...i still found it worth it. I could watch other more exciting games. I always watch the Dallas games...no matter the record. I'm a die-hard Dallas fan but also a true fan of the game and enjoy watching any team play if it's a good game.

I agree with you, after 9 years of NFLST-I am considering dropping it. That $99 HD surcharge in one of the reasons.

Also today there 20 teams at .500 or below.

The reason the Browns/Jets game is late is because the Giants/Eagles is early.

Because there are two teams in the New York market, they try to put them on at different times to maximize the local ratings.

Scott, Lambeau field rules apply here. At the end of the game, no matter who wins, we stand up, shake hands with the opposing fans, and say "Next time!" :)

(Lambeau isn't the only place that rule applies, Arizona and San Francisco have treated me the same way.)

I got ST as a gift from my 16 brothers and sisters this year. *YES 16.* Next year, the cost will be fully mine. I didn't think I would be subscribing for next year, Buuuuut! The Green and Gold are too much fun. 1 &15 or 16 &1 I'll be there! And yes! It is expensive. Oh well, only live once!

If you like watching your team, is it any different then the total cost of a couple tickets to the game? After you factor in parking, drinks, food, and tickets...your well over the cost and thats just one game.

For those that live in the area of your team, it might not be worth as much. For us that don't, its well worth it IMHO. Thats including the extra 99$ for the HD games.

I subscribed a couple weeks ago when my local Fox station listed Packers as their noon game and them switched to another game at the last minute. Directv told me I had to pay full price even though the season wa half over, but they gave me Superfan free, so I said OK. What I don't really know... Will they automatically charge me for ST and SF next year or do you have to call every year? And I can find the price for the baseball package on their site. Do you have to pay extra for baseball in HD? I am thinking with all the HD sportspack regionals I might just subscribe to that one...should get several games in HD that way.

True, but I haven't paid to attend a sporting even in close to 20 years (the games I've gone to have been in suites for free) and don't plan on it anytime soon. I'd much rather watch the game at home in the theater*

*I don't go to bars either, so that cost also wouldn't factor in.

Davenlr, NFL ST/SF should auto-renew. Some things that can mess that up include changing out the primary receiver. I've had a couple seasons where I had to make calls (one last minute) because it hadn't renewed.

Hope you enjoy!

Yes - the Eagles-Giants game was on. But since they're both from the NFC East and much closer geographically, that game would almost always be a higher priority for the D.C. market than the Cowboys.

I've been getting NFLST for over a decade, mostly for the Eagles, but even though more Eagles games have been on nationally or in the D.C. market (like yesterday) in recent years, I would still get it because of the features they've added - RZC (esp. in HD this year), player tracker, etc. I think that even if I knew I'd get every Eagles game on free TV, I'd still get it. Being able to watch the RZC or switch to any game, have my fantasy players' scores come up on the screen, etc, is all worth it to me (I should point out that I've had the Superfan fee waived every year). Last week I was not at home and realized how much I would miss it. All I had to watch was the Redskins-Bills. Missed the Eagles-Seahawks game, didn't have HD, had to wait through commercials, etc.

Back when both my kids played soccer, I'd usually only have time to record the Eagles game and watch it later while we ate dinner, FF'ing through so much that we'd usually finish in about an hour. With the price increases the past few years, I don't think I'd feel like I was getting my money's worth if that was all I were getting out of it now. But only one of my kids still plays, so now most weeks I'll sit and watch Sunday ticket all day even when the Eagles play a prime-time game. Instead of one game and one hour, I'm getting parts of about a dozen games and at least 6 solid hours of football.

I will not renew next year. I only watch the HD games, and it costs too much to get the ST and then have to get the additional HD package. Besides, the Cowboys have only been on the ticket once in the last 2 years and none this year. I am an avid Cowboys fan. I would rather watch the Cowboys lose than watch any other team win. My two favorite teams are the Cowboys and whoever is playing the Redskins. I would like to see Directv institute a pay-per-game program, that way if my team isn't playing nationally, I can just purchase the one game. Another option I would like is to be able to just get the HD game package. I would probably do that. I just don't like to pay for something I'm not using just to get to pay extra for something I might use. Make sense?:sure:

I love Sunday Ticket too, but the blackout rules piss me off sometimes. For instance; If the Rams home game isn't sold out (rare, yes), not only can I not watch it on my local station, but Sunday Ticket as well. Sorry, but I think if you pay a hefty premium for Sunday Ticket, you should be able to receive all of the games.

Thank goodness for Picture-in-Picture. Living in metro Atlanta, I get the Falcons every week locally. And yes, I am a fan of that team although watching their games this season has been extremely difficult. Plus when the Falcons have home games at 1 pm, the network not televising their game does not show a game opposite that telecast so my additional viewing options are limited without Sunday Ticket. Even though the Falcons are blacked out on ST, I still watch their games locally, and watch another game or the Red Zone Channel at the same time via ST.

Next season, Falcons home games are likely to be blacked out locally due to non-sellouts. ST will definitely come in handy to be able to watch other games. Plus, I might get a glimpse of these blacked out games via the RZC. I will definitely renew.

Being a Jets fan in Dallas, my team is hardly ever on TV here, so the Sunday ticket is vital. Also, I like having the ability to choose my game when the Jets aren't on. Last Sunday, for example, I was able to watch three exciting noon games, Giants/Eagles, Cowboys/Lions, Chargers/Titans, instead of being stuck with the games Fox and CBS chooses in my market.

I used to go to bars to watch the Jets, but it's not as comfortable and now with so many bars hooking their HDTV's with a SD hookup, I would hate not watching the games in HD.

I wish they would put in team packages on Sunday Ticket and all the sports packages. Say like I pay $100 for all the Cowboys games, $100 for all the Timberwolves games, etc.... You would think they would get more subs that way.

I had a hard time justifying getting Sunday Ticket for the Cowboys because they get so many national games and I only went in at the half-year rate this year because they are doing so good and I didn't want miss any games this season. This is the first time I've gotten Sunday Ticket since I've gotten Directv about 8 or so years ago.

That has historically been the NUMBER 1 request of the NFL ST since day one on the Big C-band dishes (where I started with NFL ST.) Perhaps Jerry Jones' involvement with looking at the NFL ST revenue streams will cause this to finally come to pass.

I've stated before, I know that I would likely INCREASE my NFL ST spending if one team and one division packages were offered. I'd gladly buy them as gifts for my family.
