Just bought a new hd tv for the bedroom and was thinking of running hdmi to it from my HR20. I already have component running to another tv (it's an older unit and not set up for hdmi). Will this hurt the signal strength of either one. I'm guessing it won't, but before I invest in 50 ft. of hdmi cable I'm wanting to be sure.
I am using a 50 ft cable and don't see any issues. I am also using component video to another set, as well as composite to 6 other zones in my home. All have been working nicely.
No it won't affect anything, all outputs are active all the time. For HDMI a run that long is gonna be $$, check Monoprice.com for a good deal, get the heavier gauge cables also.

Nope. All inputs are live and independent. Go for it. 50' is about the limit for running HDMI. Get a good cable that's CL-2 rated if you are going inside walls or the ceiling.

Doesn't he need to purchase some type of repeater for a run that long w/ HDMI?

I ran 35' with a 24 awg HDMI from Monoprice with excellent results.

Yes, you'll want to use 22 or 24 awg....try monoprice as they have a great return policy.

Maybe it's just me but I can't find a 50' HDMI 1.3a CL-2 rated cable at monoprice. I can find them that long but not HDMI 1.3a rated. I don't know how important that is.
I did find a 50' HDMI 1.3a CL-2 rated cable at Cable Wholesale but it was $100. Yikes. I might try the cheaper one first, running it across the floor initially to see if it does what you want.

You might want to head over to bluejeanscable.com and look at the following link:
http://bluejeanscable.com/articles/hdmi-spec-versions.htm?hdmidept
They state there that they do not know of anyone who has a 1.3a compliance certificate for anything longer than a 45ft cable.
You might want to take a look at the bluejeanscable HDMI cables, they offer a couple of different CL2 rated cables both of which are significantly less than $100 for a 50ft cable. Look at the BJC Series-2 and Tartan cables here:
http://bluejeanscable.com/store/hdmi-cables/index.htm
I have not personally used the BJC series-2 or tartan cables, but I have used the BJC series-1 (more expensive) and have ordered many different types of cables from bluejeanscable. They offer a very high quality product at a reasonable price, and offer a money back guarantee.
I have no personal interest in bluejeanscable, just a satisfied customer.

I went back this afternoon and read through most of Blue Jean Cables articles. They are a wordy bunch. :D
But very impressive. I just ordered 4 of their Series F cables to replace all the HDMI cables in my system. Not cheap at $80 including shipping for four of their five foot cables but I don't think I could do much better, quality-wise.
Thanks again for the link, snarfshark. :righton:
