I've been away from Dishnet's stuff since 2000 and noticed that my new dish (Dish500) has a different LNBF setup. My old Dish 500 setup used an external switch to switch between the 110 & 119.

Do the new Dishpro marked LNBF's have their switches integrated into the LNBF's? I ask this because I have my old Dish500 dish already setup perfectly and want to use my 508 reciever with it. I just want to make sure it will work.

Thanks for the help anyone.

All current and Dish Pro labeled receivers will work with any all legacy Hardware. Dish PRO Switches and LNBF's will only work with Dish PRO Labeled receivers.

Caveat: Dish PRO switches and LNBFs WILL work with non-PRO receivers with the purchase/addition of DishPRO legacy adaptor (approx $70, and requires additional AC receptacle at receiver location).

If you are going to switch you 508 from a DISH PRO system to a legacy system disconnect the cables from the dish and then run a switch test, this will reset the receiver to the LEGACY mode. Because DISH PRO uses stacked LNBF frequencies and does not switch voltages for even odd you should reset the receiver to LEGACY operation to avoid possible voltage damages to your LEGACY switches and LNBF.

Might as well buy a brand new receiver than pay $80 for an adapter for an old one. You could sell the old receiver and make out on that vs just buying the adapter.

Ok, so I have 2 dishes setup on the house, one is the new DishPro branded dish and the other is my "old" (bought in mid 2000) Dish 500 dish. The "professional" installer mounted the DishPro on my wall, just screwed into the hardyplank, not even screwed into a stud! So, it wobbles there when the wind blows. This can't be good and I can just see it now, the first wind storm we get, it's history. In contrast, the previous existing dish is rock solid, but for some reason, this genius installer doesn't want to use the existing spot (which also I was getting 110+ signal strengths) which would have entailed a simple unbolting of the existing lag bolts and rebolting to the existing holes (No more holes to drill!). Unfortunately, I was at work, and not there to give him guidance (my mistake).

So, I want to know if it is ok to use the older Dish500 dish setup with this PVR508. Or should I unbolt the old dish, and use the Dishpro. The only reason I don't necessarily want to use the DishPro is simply because I want to use one of these dishes at my ranch house some time later(and still need to obtain another receiver, which, I hope, will be a PVR 721/921 or better). And if the older setup will work, then it's less work for me. I'll just have to unbolt the new dish and patch up the holes.

Bottom line is: I would like to save the newer dish for the newer receiver I am planning to add in the future.

So can I stay with the old and save the new or should I just stay with the new? Am I confused or confusing anyone?

I'm rambling...I should sleep.

Just 4 posts above -

Your PVR508 will work with ANY dish/switch .
