I dont want to sound like a complainer but how do you over look the 13th largest market in the country. I got all excited about dish HD until I found out that I could not get HD locals. I happen to live in Sarasota which is the very southern tip of the Tampa market. Problem is that do to massive construction even OTA signals are hard to get.

Is there ever going to be a Distant Network Exception for HD. Cant get a HD signal from your locals do to interference I should be able to watch some other dma's locals. But I know dish does not make the laws. But I really dont see a reason why there are not tampa locals, if Dish is reading this, know that you should not snub a top 20 market to me it is a big deal since I watch alot of programming on the local networks.

I would be happy if I could get the major 4 in HD ABC, NBC, CBS , Fox

The Florida judge that caused this problem must be either a cable lover or a D* subscriber. No more waivers....that's absurd.

I do belive ABC Ch 40 is out of Sarasota, not Riverview like the other Tampa stations.

Sarasota ABC station I think is ch 40 out of Sarasota. U shouldnt have a problem getting them OTA!!

FOX CH 13
ABC CH28
NBC CH8
These station all transmit from Riverview, Fl.

CBS Ch10 is out of Holiday, Fl (Pasco County on the coast line).
If you can get your Antenna high enough outside and point it at riverview U might get them all but Ch 10.

It is funny in Sarasota u have 2 abc stations. Ch40 and Ch28!!

I have not been able to get 40 in realibly. I live down town srq basically near the channel 40 studios but the transmitter for 40 is in parrish and it use to be more powerful but then had to tone down after 28 became a abc afiliate and the abc vs 40 law suit. Long in short sarasota is wierd as it has basically written as a dma inside a dma. But 40 had to tone down it xmitter so the signal does not have too much bleed pass manatee county .

I have tried a lot of things to get ota to work and had an antenna expert come out and was measuring the signals and they are weak at best not impossible to get but a diffinite challenge. This is what happens when you get surrounded by condos every where.

The FCC has gotten themselves into a mess by forcing everyone go digital. My local ABC can only come in at about 59 to 67 strength at the most. Fox is solid in the 80 - 90s, CBS, the same. NBC is pegged at 100!! Even local small independents are 70 or better. The engineer over at ABC tells me that they are pumping out the maximum allowed for the area. The last time a power limit was put in place was the late 70's!!!! That's pathetic!

Which ABC station are you referring to? I live in Lawrence, Michigan and I can get channels from Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and Muskegon, Michigan. I also get channels from South Bend and Gary, Indiana. I can get Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee and Greenbay Wisconsin.

Austin316, I know just how you feel. I've had Dish for about 2 weeks now and I'm thoroughly ticked about the no HD locals. At least with Bright House I had them. BUT....I needed to get RFD-TV and Bright House didn't carry it. Tell ya' what tho', the day BH adds RFD-TV is the day I cancel Dish.

I'm located in Port Richey, about 30 miles north of Tampa.

The reason why 40 is an ABC Station date back when ch10 was ABC. CH10's xmitter is about 70 miles north and west of all the other Tampa station and it was hard to get ch 10 in Sarasota. (This was back when everyone had to use an antenna.) So CH 40 filled the gap for the lost covarage for ABC in the Sarasota area. I think in the 90's there was a shift of networks in the tampa area. CBS became FOX. FOX became ABC. And ABC became CBS. Now ABC has full covarage on the DMA and over laps 40. (U cant even get 40 on E* or D*). CBS was the looser in this because their xmitter is much farther north than everyone else and if you are using an antenna in sarasota u probly cant get ch 10.

Heck the said thing is I cant even get channel 40 in which is on 52-DTV as I would at least be able to watch Boston Legal.

Right now I am getting 44 DTV and 16 which has 4 SD DTV channels. Which is sad as when I was on vaca in upstate newyork got some great hd pbs feeds with decent programming on which really surprised me.
