View Full Version : Archos support on 605/705
My 622 and 722 seem to now recognize my Archos 605 and 705 - it lists them by name when I hook them up as windows media devices. However, whenever I try to access them or send content to them, the receivers immediately lock up and reboot. Is anyone else having any luck? Also, it looks like you cannot have two external usb devices hooked up at once, I had to disconnect my external Seagate storage drive.

Latest software update.

I do have the latest software update, and my archos even shows a "dish network" folder - but the menu locks up whenever I try to do anything, followed by a reboot of the 622 or 722 after about 20 seconds.

Have you obtained the software plug-in for the Archos device?

How do you do this? I asked Dish Technical support, and they didn't know. I tried to find this software on the Archos web site, and could not. The knowledge base doesn't appear to specify exactly where this plug in comes from.
Thanks,
Bill

I was hoping you would tell me ;), then I'd add a direct link.
All we have at this point is from the November Tech Forum (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/Tech0711.htm):
Later this month, the 622/722 will get software to support the Archos Generation 5 portable media player models 605 (available now) and 705 (coming in January). ... Both models require a plug-in to work with Dish receivers. Go to archos.com, follow the on-line directions to download the software to the Archos player. The first part is L448, the second will be from Archos. I would have thought that addition of a "dish network" folder meant that it was there but the lock-up problem could be the result of missing software to work with the 622.

I've never seen anything at the Archos site, and the techs from both Dish and Archos apparently tell everyone "We know nothing". I did see one person received an email saying "I know of no such thing, but keep an eye on the site for firmware updates". All things being relative - that might be viewed as positive! I don't understand this "You can't handle the truth" attitude on things like this, it's not like millions of people are going to start calling up Archos asking questions. They act like they're part of Watergate or something.
Someone at Dish must have the appropriate plug-in in order to actually test the software that they have now spooled for 622/722 units. Why is it so difficult to get them to either provide this software to their customers, or point us to someone at Archos who can?
I love the fact that Dish announces new product capabilities during the Tech Forum. I would think that they would have also followed through with their own tech support folks in order for people to actually use the stuff they are obviously working hard on.
Thanks.

Can you transfer HD content to the Archos players? I'm about ready to order one and I'd really like to know before I make the final decision. I'm not so worried about the content being HD on the archos, but if I'd have to record again in sd.
Thanks,
-Shane

Nope. The 605 will only accept SD content from the 622/722.

Does anyone know if there are any plans for HD content on the 605 or 705?

Yes Archos have been talking about it supporting HD content with a software plug-in(720P). Also you need the dish network plug-in to transfer shows off the receiver.
