View Full Version : Diplex to send a signal the other way?

I did several searches but couldn't find anyone asking this same question so here goes...

I'm wondering if it would be possible to use the same RG6 that is feeding a receiver to send the "Channel 3 signal" coming out of the receiver back the other way on the same line? I have an R15 so the new HD is not a concern and I would be able to 'pull' the signal back out before the multiswitch. The multiswitch is a WB68 if that matters for any reason.

I have NO experience with diplexing signals so I have no idea how this would be done or if its even possible.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Cable broadband does it all of the time.

Thanks! So, do I just buy something similar to this...

http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?prod=SPDX100

....and hook the sat feed to the one that says sat and the 'channel 3' feed to the one that says TV and then do the same thing at the side near the multiswitch?

Two of those look like what you need. Of course one would go one way and the other would be the other ways. Sat in, channel three out before the multi-switch, a common line down to the receiver, where the receiver would go to SAT out and the channel three would come in.

I did this and it worked without a problem. I had diplexed a reverse path from the RF out of a Directivo box to my wiring panel then diplexed the signal back out and patched it to another room. I had an IR repeater and an extra remote for the second room. For the amount of RG6 I traversed (approx 80 - 100 feet) I was impressed that the signal held together.

I see you had the same idea I have except I'm using one receiver and an RF remote on the R15 to handle all my extra rooms/tv's (guest, office, garage). I really can't imagine a time where I will want different stations on these three tv's.

Thanks everyone for the help!

With SD equipment no problem to diplex channel 3 back to another TV.

With HD the BBC will have to be moved to the first diplexer (only works reliably at 30 foot or less RG-6" and you will need a RF converter to set up the channel 3 feed"

"Directv won't support the HD type setup, but it works!

I was running that way for several years before I went all HD in the living room. Fed my old Sony DirecTivo back to the bedroom on the same cable that I sent one of the lines from the dish to the Tivo. Worked like a charm.

Make sure you are on the output side of any switches. (Non-dish side.)

Sweet. Just did exactly what you said, and it works great, even with 50ft+ runs on both sides of the BBC. For the record, and for those like me who need a picture, here's what I did (ignore the dots, they're just for spacing):

SAT--->BBC--->|....................|--->H20 (SAT input)
..............|DIPLEXER--->DIPLEXER|
SDTV(Ch3)<----|....................|<---RF.CONV (A/V out from H20 to RF.CONV)

Also if you remove that crappy little jumper from the gray or black BBCs you will gain 20 foot or more in distance. "open little plastic box on BBC to see/access the connector.
