I watched the Red Wings last night on FSN Detroit and it wasn't in HD. Are the hockey games ever in HD?

I saw the same thing.. it was quite a rare occurrence.. almost every game on FSD is in HD

Maybe it's because it was an away game.

The Red Wings and Pistons games that are in HD on FSN Detroit are posted on the FSN website.

Typically, only home games are in HD (some select away games are, also), but even not all homes games are in HD.

Pistons have all their games on WMYD and WDIV in HD

In December all but two games are in HD. I guess you just happened to find one of them. The next one in SD is on the 20th. In January about 1/2 of the games are HD.

So far the only way I have been able to get an away game in HD is if it was on VS, HDNet, or NHL Network. I have yet to see an away game in HD on FSN Detroit.

The 22nd, 26th, 27th, and 29th games are away and will be in HD on FSD

Yep, just a few away games in HD. All Wings home games are in HD.

Fox is upgrading their broadcast center in the next couple months so that should be a lot more away games in HD perhaps next season or even later this season.

Actually I saw an article (i think here) where Fox was counting weeks, not months until the new control center goes live
