Hi all,

I am a Dish Network subscriber. A few years ago I bought a complete Directv system becuase it was cheap, like $49. I installed the dish and all but never called Directv to activate it. I bought it at Wal Mart so I never filled out any paperwork or anything.

Now, my mom is an Indianapolis Colts season ticket holder and has been for many years. She's getting tired of climbing up stairs and stuff. And the fact that tickets are quite expensive she is not sure she wants to get season tickets anymore.

What I am wondering is this. Can I use this Directv system and get her just NFL Sunday ticket?

The Receiver is an RCA Directv Plus Model DRD420RE and has an HU Smart Card. I don't know much about Directv so I thought I'd ask here. I also remember reading that HU cards were replaced or were they?

So if I call Directv and get *just* NFL Sunday Ticket next season am I going to have to pay for a new Smart Card?

I will take the receiver over to my moms house and hook it back to that old Directv dish that she still has on her house to make sure it still works.

Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I believe that she would also have to subscribe to a Directv basic package as well...I do not believe that she would just be able to subscribe to the Sunday Ticket alone.....if anyone else knows anything different Im sure they will add on..

If it wasn't a subsidised system (no CC info or contract signed) then yes, you can get the NFL sunday ticket as a stand alone subscription. Sounds like wally world dropped the ball on this one, good for you.

The card may or may not be activated. Since it is a new (unactivated) system they should either activate what you have or send you a new (P4) card free.

The system was not subsidized in any way. Nor was it an open box or anything like that. Wal Mart had stacks of these sitting around so I picked one up and bought it at the cash register. I never signed any agreement or anything on this system.

I've not gotten back to my moms home to hook the receive back up yet but as I recall when it was hooked up ages ago it got all the free to air programming.

Thanks for the information all. The Directv website says to come back after 2/1/03 for information on NFL Sunday Ticket for the upcoming NFL Season.
