Maybe I am missing something but if I am a current subscriber to DISH and I see a 721PVR for sale at AllSat for the complete system, why can't I order it and have them ship it to me and just connect the receiver??? And then call dish to set up the card or whatever.

I am sure I am missing something, I just want to know what it is.... For a $200.00 savings I should just make sure...

Thanks, Matt

That's a promotional price for people who have never had Dish before. If you purchase it, you'll probably receive the unit, but you'll have trouble getting it setup with Dish. They'll probably charge you the difference or (worse yet) refuse to set it up at all.

No - you'll probably get a $200 chargeback from AllSat.

Sorry - you can be a new subscriber only once.

OK, I get the picture... I just thought that I would check.. It would be nice if they gave us an upgrade special.

Thanks for your input.

Infact, I think that if we wasted our new member staus on a dishplayer, we should another shot at new membership... : )

E* wins no points for the lack of upgrades for existing customers. I inquired about a 721 as well (actually wanting a 921 when it finally arrives) and was told that E* preferentially sent the 721s to dealers, and were not available directly from Dish. My local dealers scoffed at the idea of selling just the hardware (after grumbling at length about their contracting arrangement with Dish). Sensing a poor attitude, I looked into alternatives, which do include getting Dish hardware from the source of your choice (Dish hopes you use a Dish Authorized Reseller), and doing just as hikerak suggests, buy, calling Dish and authorize. Watch for the gotcha of buying used equipment with an existing balance on the card, oops, you owe the balance if that should occur.

Personally, I am reasonably pleased with Dish, but underwhelmed with their upgrade path for existing customers and their thinking on HDTV. Moral of the story, when you first subscribe, think carefully. As an existing customer, you will pay more for upgrades. Gee thanks Dish.

It doesn't say anywhere on the site that it is for new customers only.
